    Dodgy windscreen washers!

    Hey,

First - I assume the ABY washer system is different? The 3B had 2 bottles - one for the headlamps, another for the windscreen. Only found one the ABY or am I blind?

Second... just wondered if I need to replace the pump or if there's any fuses etc I should check first? If it needs changing, how the hell do I get to the washer pump?

Basically: I thought the washer fluid ran out, could hear the pump whirring. So I refilled it. Tried again, exactly the same... next day, had a chance to look at it, thought it was blocked perhaps. Sucked on the pipe to the washer jets, got a mouthful of nasty tasting "stuff" and then some nasty tasting washer fluid... OK, good to go i thought. Plugged it back in, now there's no noises at all from the pump

It's doing my head in, searched and found a few tips to try and get it to work, but so far no joy and can't find the pump to try tapping it.. any help welcome

    Cheers

    One bottle is correct.

Take off the bumper to get to the pump and connections easily. Or bend the inner arch back but that's not as good IMHO.

Not too sure about the wiring but either a manual or s2-audi should show what relay or fue is related to the washer system.

My headlamp washers didn't work for ages and I eventally investigated to find completely the wrong connector on the wiring loom for the pump. A bit of bodging later and I had some headlamp washers. Unfortunately the jet insert on the drives side then decided to abscond! Relay removed, problem solved. Car had been fixed by a bunch of monkeys and couldn't have worked since. Best run through the wiring with a fine tooth comb!

    Good luck son

Happened to me last week, lost almost all power on one of the passenger side nozzeles.
Managed to clear it by using some compressed air directly into the nozzle.

Headlight washers only work if the headlights are on.

I had a problem with my windscreen washers, pump was siezed. Take off passenger friont inner wing lining, just the front half. Washer bottle and both pumps are behind lining. Pump is clipped into reservoir.

Once I had freed the pump the drivers nozzle still didnt work properly, eventually found the case was the washer pipe was squashed as it goes around passenger side of bonnet corner.

                  Maybe yours is the same.

                  Good Luck
