    Fuel Pump 044 alternative

    Hi all.

I couldn't decide the best forum for a fuel pump question....

Basically, I somehow lost the fuel tank for my coupe while it was disassembled and it moved around a couple of storage locations.

Anyway....I ended up buying an ABY tank but it has been modified to hold a 044 pump. My fuel system has a surge tank with a Walbro/Ti 525 pump (plus space for a second pump if needed). So the "main" pump will only need to pump fuel from the tank into the surge tank. Because of this I have no need, or want, for an 044 pump.

My question is... Is there another pump in the bosch range that is the same dimensions but without the £££ price tag?,,,, I don't need it to be any sort of performance, I just need it to fit into the modified basket.

    Thanks for any help.

    Jase.

I have a good used Bosch pump that might work and is cheap. What diameter do you need?

      Hi Dave,

Thanks, I'm presuming it is whatever the 044 pumps measurements are as that's what the basket/hanger thing was modified to hold. I think they are 60mm diameter?

If Dave can't help I have a large diameter stock S2 pump as well as a good complete basket for a small one if you need it.

Thanks Dave. It looks spot on.

My only question/curiosity is, does the stock pump have a pickup or anything that attached to the bottom so it feeds from lower in the tank or is it like this pump?

I'm not with my car so it's not an easy one for me to take a look at.

                Cheers!

Just a screen at the bottom as far as I remember. Same as this one. Fuel is held in a sort of bowl at the bottom of the basket. Send me a pm if you are interested

The stock pump I've got is slightly differnt to this one, it doesn't have the screen at the bottom, just an intake hole. As long as it's 60mm in diameter it'll do the job just fine.

I've just checked the part number and it's a really decent pump, it basically a non motorsport 044 and would be a much better job than my stock S2 unit.

I'm using this exact pump with the 034 basket adapter in a 3b aby coupé. The stock in tank wire guage is technically under sized for this pump, but I've not had any problems.

Saying that, roughly the highest fuel pressure I see is 4 bar ish.

Current goes up with higher pump load/pressure.

I use to run an 044 in my 3B's basket after making it fit nicely, they're a bit of a pain as they're not really an in tank pump so the fitting on the base makes it very tall. I upgraded the power wires in the tank when I fitted it as well as giving it a direct relayed power supply to the battery which I'd put under the rear seat.

4 bar is correct as thats what the fuel pressure regulator is rated at, though those pumps could deliver much more.

4 bar is the aby base pressure, with standard ish boost it'll be around 5 bar max

My setup is a bit funky, running ev6 0 280 155 759 injectors (long body with standard 14mm orings) that have the same flow as the stock aby injectors but at 3 bar base pressure. The dead times are close enough that it runs flawlessly on a unknown chipset that have mtm stickers on. Brought the car with them installed.

I'm in the middle of swapping to a maxx ECU but wanted it running on the motronic with no fault codes.

Yep, that's quite right, ABY's are 4 bar base, 3B's 3 bar and for some reason RS2 are's 3.8 bar...

What turbo are you running with the MTM software and what makes you want to swap it for Maxx ECU, I'm guessing your planning upgrades?

I'm quite curious about the Maxx ECU as it might well suit my needs at some point well in the future, is it plug and play so to speak or do you have to alter any of the engine wiring? I'm going to be wanting to use it with a 1.8T and I have a couple of different turbos I intend to run so it would be nice to be able map it myself, I'd like to learn how it's done anyway.

I'll start a new post about my setup instead of high jacking this one!

The other offering in the same pump chassis size is the AEM 60mm.
