    RS2 Spot Lights

What are the wee bulbs for in the RS2 spot lights? When do these come on?

Is it legal to have these on with just the headlights on? Or are people going to think I am a ****** with spots on all the time

I live in shame and admit to using mine quite often. Maybe other road users find it indimidating but I think they are more like driving lights as they are not too bright. They look cool when they are on with the projector bulbs and people don't recognise which car it is when I am behind them at night. It looks different...like 4 small round lights in the rear view mirror.

Are these the bulbs that are next to the/ in the foglights? I only ever had a plug on the loom for my fog lights......

The second bulb is the sidelight of the Porsche 993 which is where the RS2 bumper lights come from. The Audi loom doesn't link to them. I was talking about the fog lights.

Yep me like Lee nearly always use the front foglamps and I also tend to think of them as driving lights as they are not too bright.

No one called me a ****** yet........well not that I know of anyway .

personally I can't stand people who drive with their fog lights on.

            --- HATE THEM ---

ITS NOT FOGGY. IT DOESN'T MAKE YOUR CAR FASTER & IT DOESN'T MAKE YOUR ***** SAXO COOL.

They light up about 3ft infront of you so how can they be 'driving lights'???

Sorry but this really bugs me..... :nana: Shame on you Mark / Lee.

            </Rant over>

a few of my favourite quotes.....

            - - - - - - - - - -

'There's still no denying that folk who drive with fog lights on, when it's not foggy, are complete ******
I ****ing hate them with a passion.'

            - - - - - - - - - -

'There's no deny that those driving with fog lights + only side lights on do it for show only and are complete *****. There's no deny that those driving with fog lights + only side lights on do it for show only and are complete .******'

            - - - - - - - - - -

'Using your foglights is illegal and is one of my pet hates so if I see people with em on they get a ticket and a £30 fine

Fair enough some people dont realise that they are on such as old people but boy racers are GETTING IT!!!!!!!!!' (from a copper & obvious slippermobile lover)

            - - - - - - - - - -

recall a viz top tip that went something like "hot hatch owners - by pressing the foglight button a second time, your fog lights will turn off"

            - - - - - - - - - -

I think the worse cars for having their fog lights are young lads in their Citroen VTRs.

"Havin' the fog lights makes it look like pukka rally car, mate"
Yeah, who do they think they're kidding!?

            - - - - - - - - - -

Notice to all Audi A4 owners! The default position for your front foglights is off! please do not use them in conditions of good visibility as it's ****** annoying at 7.30am on the M1 and it DOESN'T look cool. Yes, that includes the convoy of three silver ones this morning!

            - - - - - - - - - -

If your fog lights are on your a ******. Cars do have acceptable front lights and if they don't then get them fixed.

            - - - - - - - - - -

Front fogs on = Bit of a ****** in my opinion. Probably the same person who thinks his Saxo/Clio/Polo/Metro can outgun my Chimaera and wants to prove it constantly in totally inappropriate places/conditions.

These people really **** me off.

Thanks for that Alistair - I totally agree with your sentiments.
Such passion - now just sit down and take a few deep breaths - if that fails go down the pub

Now if you have an RS2 or have RS2 fog/spotlights fitted, it is peferctly possible to wire up the second (non-foglight) bulb to come on with your sidelights as that is what it was intended for on the Porsche 993. Whether it is necessary or not is another matter.

                Well that told me ,
Anyway you'll be glad to know I have the 993 air ducts for my RS2 bumper and these come with a whopping 4 watt bulb fitted to their Hella lamp. However I am thinking of using the PIAA 002x lamp in their place, appparently this is an upgrade commonly carried out by 993 owners here

This is described as a 'driving lamp' so will I still be a ****** if I use them
                ?

Thankyou for your honesty fellas .

                Cheers,

                Mark.

Oh by the way please dont confuse me and I am sure Lee also, with those idiots that use their rear fog lights all the time.............I do after all have some standards .

I'll wire them upto my sidelights then - just have to visit the scrappy for some connectors.

                  Cheers for the help

Next question - is it always the left hand fog that smashes? I could do with a replacement - and even a left hand indiator - Anyone? I don't want to pay silly oney for them just now.

ive goto agree with alastair on this one too.
except on a narrow country road at night because they give a little more light and peripheral vision while you are driving.

Lot of emotion out there on the subject. I may be branded a **** but as Mark said, I do have some consideration. I only use them at night and I live in a relatively rural area where there aren't many cars when late, and the extra visibility it gives on dips is welcoming. I never use them on Motorways unless its really quiet and never in built up areas! When going cross country in deserted Wales near my folks I always use both dips/fogs and main beams to maximise visibility at all times. Surely there are exceptions to their use when not foggy if the application is more intelligently applied??

@Doug, Seems that its always the left hand lens that gets smashed! Wierd. The glass is quite thin and flat so isn't that strong.

@Mark, where did you get your ducts? Those lower powered lights sound good and I wonder if it's possible to make proper brake ducts to feed air into the centre of the disk. Photo of yours? There is a 2 piece lens and duct. Sounds wierd but I quite liked it. Anyone know where to get some from. I'd like some cos they're different and I have never seen them fitted to an S2/RS2 before, only a few Porsche 993s in photos. Here: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/attachm...=&postid=12754 Should look ok with my clear repeaters.

I was travelling back to Wales very late once and there were no other cars on the road travelling in my direction. It was an unlit dual carriageway with poor cats-eys and there were cars in the other carriageway so I was just using dips on their own. Heads couldn't be used. There was a broken down car on the nearside verge which had been left half on the road. I was only on dips and this car was not visible in the lights until I was quite close due to the local geography. It freaked me out so much that I now appreciate the extra illumination of the verges provided by the fogs when there is sparse traffic. This is when I consider them to be driving lights.
