I had a customers 3B in work last week with a non-start/ non charging problem. After getting the car in the air on the ramp to test the starter motor, I found that the main earth for the enigine had broken away.
After repairing this earth strap, the car then charged and started fine. This broken lead also gave a bad misfire when the car was nailed. Suppose the ECU had a poor earth path, as the battery is connected to the body.
