Is it possible to reset this easily? I'm getting a broken bulb symbol on start up, (there isn't one), only on pressing the brake pedal does OK come up. It always started with OK showing and disappeared on pressing the pedal. I know its not a major thing but if there is a cure I'd like to know about.
thanks in advance
Gus

That is what is meant to happen I think!
On my S2 the broken bulb warning light appears when you first switch on the ignition until you press the brake for the first time and then it goes (once it knows the bulbs are in fact fine) hth
I don't think so, It should start with Ok, which then disappears on pressing the brake pedal. Thats what use to happen!
Anyone know what's right?

Hi Gus think your up the road from me in Petersfield arent you? get the exhaust sorted out ok? This is going to bug me as im not near my car and someone will post a reply confirming but i think when i switch my ignition on the light bulb comes up then when i press the brake pedal it shows OK ie checked. This only checks the rear lights and the front dipped iirc (id wiggle the connections might just be a bad contact)
S2 + RS2 yep ive had a few love em... Laser red S2 avant... Brilliant black lhd RS2... Polar silver RS2... RS blau RS2... CheeRS Al
It's the brake light warning and it goes out when you light up the brake lights ...by pressing on the brake pedal. The system will warn about brake lights as they are considered to be a serious safety item, whereas it only tells you about other lights when you switch them on.
This is normal on many cars and as far as I am aware the S2 is no exception.

I know what is thanks, all I mean is that my system always started from the OK, and disappeared on pressing the breaks, that is if there wasn't a problem!
They are getting on a bit now I suppose,
cheers

Without wishing to labout the point, It SHOULD show (X) on start up until you press the brake pedal, after which it shows "OK". On othe european versions the german word for "brakes" appears instead of the (X) symbol and this also gives way to "OK" when brake pedal has been pressed...
[suck eggs]Are you sure you you haven't changed the way you park or drive the car, where before you started the car with your foot on the brake or something???[/suck eggs]

Bremslicht (Brake light) is what appears on European versions, and a crossed out bulb with brake shoes around it on UK versions - and mine has always shown that symbol until the brakes are applied.

The autocheck displays the bulb symbol UNTIL you press the brake pedal for the first time.
Only when the pedal has been pressed and the brakelights have been tested does it display OK.
The OK display disappears after a few seconds. This has nothing to do with pressing the brake pedal.
I would suggest if yours displayed OK when the ignition is turned on without you pressing the pedal then your brakelight switch is/was faulty. The autocheck only tests the bulbs not the switch.
Personally I very rarely see the brakelight symbol as I am used the pressing the brake pedal while I start it. So much so in fact that I do it in the dag dag which hasn't got autocheck.

Thank you for putting me right, I'm with you now, you right, mine does the same above too, I think all these warning lights have fried my brain as well, I was mistaken.
