    Rear windows

    Hi all,

new to the forum so please bear with me - hope this is the right place for this message.
I have a 96 S2 coupe - the one thing I would really like that is missing on mine is the electric rear windows - can these be fitted or is this impossible? Think they look great. Any advice greatly appreciated. Also, read in the handbook about the solar roof (which cools the interior in hot weather). Did this exist and does anybody have it on their car?
    Cheers
    Paul

Hi paul, welcome to the forum.

It is possible to retro fit this system.

There is a another thread which discusses this in detail. have a look around. It was I think a £500 option. Lots of people say it provides no benefit and they can leak. Others just never use them.

1/ you need to find the bits. you need:
      side windows
      body seals
      motors
wiring harness lots of work to route around the place
interior trim to cover the motors ( same colour as your interior of course)!
drivers door 4 button control panel ( may be tthe same as an Audi 80/90)

      2/ fitting
Take both front door seals off including plastic at the bottom
take off drivers front door card
      take off drivers knee panel
      take out rear seat base
      lift carpet on both sides
      remove side panel trims
Can't remember if the roof trims need to come out?
take out both rear side panels
remove aluminium black trims ( at front of side windows)
      remove windows and seals
      clean area fit new seals
      fit glass
      fit motors
      fit wiring loom
      fit aluminium panels
      fit new interior motor trims
interface with wiring inside drivers door
      fit control panel
      take supply from Fuse box
      route cabling behind dashboard
fit new motor trims refit interior etc. relay carpets if dry!

all in all it will take an experienced person doing it properly a good days work. as long as there aren't problems. There may be problems with leaks from badly fitted seals etc.

The windows were £200 last time I came across them with quite a few bits missing.

      The choice is yours.

      David
