    passenger airbag issue

Hi everyone i try to search around but no luck......
Does anyone knows a system to deactivate the passenger airbag without having the alarm light (and so the driver one off as well) on?

Perhaps a resistor? i heard that Volkswagen did supply a plug to put on the cable that emulates the airbag anyone heard of this?

    Thanks Stefano

This must a European (LHD) thing - pretty sure its unheard of in the UK.

I'll dig around factory manuals to see if anything can be done with VAGCOM in this regard... or something else.

Just found this in SSP 151 - Airbag system description circa 1993 - There is a high level circuit diagram depicting system with BOTh airbags and description of use of a 2,5ohm resistance wire to be used where passenger airbag is not fitted.

I can't scan the document right now, but i can try to PH it...

See attached - annotated photo from SSP 151 as described. There must be an official Audi p/n for this plug at T5. Dunno rating of 2.5ohm resistor.

There is a kit available to deactivate the passenger airbag.

Part numbers depend on chassis number:

              8D0 998 521 for vehicles up to 8C-R-000 924 (up to June 1994 production)
              or
              8D0 998 521 A for vehicles after 8C-R-000 925 (July 1994 production onwards)

This is not an exact chassis break though so unless your car is a long way from these chassis numbers it will be difficult to say which one will be correct.

                      Job done!

The so called "kit" consist in:

1 plug with a 2.5 ohm resistor inside
                      2 a foam pipe 9 cm long
                      3 a plastic strap
4 a sheet of stickers in several languages stating "passenger airbag disconeccted"
5 a certificate to be filled wiìth chassis number stamp of the Audi garage and posted to the importer
