vag-com for begginers

Right,being a tree surgeon by trade and a computer illiterate numpty who just manages to get by on his pc ,can the more experienced computer users tell me what and where I can get the things I need to get vag-com for my car.
I do know you need a lap top though for starters,and the correct interface cable.
But where do you get the software and any minimum requirements for the laptop etc etc

you can buy the original with cable etc from here www.ross-tech.com
certainley a lot easier than mucking around with cheaper cables if you are not that good with a pc.

and use the free version but like i say people often have problems getting it to work if they are not handy with a pc.
