Had a look at that today, the wiring in the boot hinge of mine is fine; I must admit, having owned two of these, and having frequented the relevant boards on Audifans.net up to now, I've never heard of anyone else having that problem.

I totally agree about doing an S2 Sedan conversion. It's my dream project. Waiting for the right cars to come along, and a bit more cash. Meanwhile I'm sure a coupe will keep me very happy!

OK, real reason for coming on here was to thank you all for your help and let you know it's fixed!

I can't claim credit however, my mechanic noticed that one of the air-con pipes had gradually over the years rubbed through the sheathing on one of the alternator wires. This was then going to ground on a brake line that passes that point!

With it all re-insulated and an extra bit of padding around the air-con pipe in question to make sure it doesn't recur, it's all back to it's normal self!

Thanks again for all suggestions and ideas, much appreciated!
