    Cruise Control retrofit

I've seen for sale most of the parts needed to retrofit a Cruise Control setup.

From a the bit of research I've done, it seems the vacuum diaphragm is different depending on the engine / application.

Thsi setup is from a 2.6 V6, my car is a CQ20 - anyone know if it is the same Vacuum diaphragm? Seems unlikely

    Cheers

You will need to get the diaphragm, bracket and control rod for a 7A if you're taking it from a V6, all the other parts will work ok I think but the vacuum pump bracket from the V6 might have to be adapted.

I got my cruise control from an Audi 100 and all the parts I took from it fitted my car although the loom had to be adapted a bit. The engine had gone from the 100 so I bought the diaphragm, diaphragm bracket, control rod and vacuum pump bracket from Audi. They weren't that expensive.

Just checked the album, V6 models do have a different vacume unit for some reason, all others NM,7A,3B,ABY,AAN etc are the same, only difference is the mounting bracket (seems to be fitted to all 7A's) and linkage rod.

        Thanks Mark,

is that mounting bracket the V-shaped metal bracket thing that does nothing on the 'inside rear' corner of the manifold?

If it is the cruise control on eBay you are looking at buying there do seem to be quite a few parts missing, you will need:

Vacuum diaphragm 811 907 327 B (fitted to loads of cars but not the V6)
          Vacuum diaphragm bracket 893 721 394 B (7A and NM only)
          Connecting rod 853 907 415
Vacuum pump bracket (looks like it might be NLA for RHD 7A coupe)
          2 ventilation valves 811 907 343 B
          2 clips for ventilation valves 431 721 28
          Hose N 018 046 3 (only available in 5m lengths)
          Y piece 058 127 561

You also will need plugs for the control unit, vacuum pump, aux relay panel and 2 plugs for the ventilation valves as well as the appropriate terminals. I can't see if the plug for the stalk is included but you may need that as well.

yeah after investigation there are a load of bits missing from it being a 'set-up'

If the price is right i might get it just for the stalk and ECU, and gather the other bits as they pop up... we'll see

              Alex, ..so thats your name

Its worth buying anyway for the motor/ecu/stalk, the rest of it are the cheap bits.

The bracket is that metal thing as you said, heres a pic of a US spec CQ with cruise control. The pump is on the bulkhead behind the ABS unit.

              Mark.

thanks Mark - i'll keep an eye on it and see how much it goes for, if the price is right, i'll have it
Are the other bits still available at the dealer i wonder?

Are we RHD owners supposed to have one of those lovely battery covers?

I fited cruise control to my previous V6. It never worked. The pump from I5 engine couldnt move the conecting rod to open the trotle. Tried to fit direct line to diaphragm to be sure that I had no leakages and conected power suply manualy bit it never moved the trotle. Oh and I fited two diferent pumps but it stil didnt move.

I was struggling also with retrofitting cruise control, found out that there was a bad connection in the cruise control switch. Was a real pita..

For trubleshooting I tried direct conection pump-hose-diaphragm. Solf the V6 before I finished and bought S2.
