Can anyone tell me the which loom has the 2-pin connector for the external temperature guage mounted behind the bumper and what and the connectors part number?
I've looked through the album twice and I can't seem to identify it.
Going off that diagram address that Stu gave, put 813 972 923 number into ATP and all models and it says that connector is used for a few different things. One being the 2 pin connector on the front bumper indicators.
Whip one out and try your temp sensor on it (obviously without turning the indie on incase some bright spark suggests not to ).
Will at least determine if it's the right one.
also look in special catologues "EL" at illustration 970-20 #23 and #24

Nuvo - the schematics are OK on this from memory. I'll get a look for you tomorrow... And if its dry I can post a quick pic on my car where the ATD sensor lives.
Ive actually got one of the connectors from the stealers ready for when I finally get round to retofitting my ATD, so they are available. Its a generic flat two pin connector with a pin release. There's a few of these around the engine bay so I think I just used the part no from one I could find easily in the family album. Unfortunately the plug I bought is in me dads garage so no doubt the guys will get you the part number before I can get it off the plug!!
Theres no existing loom I can use on my 3B but it shouldnt be too difficult to wire up - iirc one pin goes to ground and the other runs to the ATD display in the clocks (here's a Linky to a thread in Audifans with the pin outs).
Unfortunately my dash loom is also missing the yellow connector plug, normally on the back of the clock binnacle, that the ATD display plugs into - so Ive had to source that connector also in order to splice it into the loom for the clocks so the display will work! (on my cq20v it was already pre-wired in!) Other than that its dead easy!

Thanks very much paul, some good info there. I'm hoping the yellow 5 pin connector is already in place to save me a bit of faffing. 5 wires is no great hardship though.
Looking at your link, pin 2 of the yellow 5 pin connector goes directly to the sensor, that is the one that is likely to take a bit if time to route it behind the dash and through the bulkhead. I'll try a temporary patch first to test it works.
I'd still like the find the part number of this two pin connector and have a look at a wiring diagram if possible. Also where the sensor is mounted and so on would be very helpful as mentioned.
Hope i've got the plug on the back of the clocks as i've just picked up the wiring and ATD just gotta get around to fitting it, just want to check where the wiring is routed and where the earth connects to so it has the oem look.
Two pin connector on the sensor side = 8D0 971 946,
It's other half on the loom side = 443 906 232,
There is a rubber boot covering the connector on the loom side = 443 906 102 G
Put either of the connector part numbers into ATP and goto the "EL" section again and you'll see a drawing of them.
Pic of the connector but not in it's actual position as I had to pull it up into view. It's clipped to the same piece of metalwork the sensor is with one of those cable ties with an attached push stud thingy, (you'll know what I mean )
And lastly a pic of the sensor clipped in it's bracket (sorry couldn't get in to see the bracket part number). The pic is taken through the nearside lower front bumper grille.
Right, off to wash me mits.

A big thankyou to you for taking the trouble to do this on a cold dark evening. You're a true gent.
I looked at the EL catalogue as you suggest and they look spot on. I searched through the main catalogue to try and place the connector to the loom and I still can't seem to find it.
I did manage to find the part numbers for the external temp sensor and it retainer this time.
I wasn't aware that a car fitted with the ext. temp display and aircon actually uses two of these sensors.
I'd expect the ground for the sensor to be bolted to the inside of the nearside wing.
I'm tempted to have a quick sniff about in the lockup just now to see what, if anything is in place.

No worries, needed to do the weekly oil/water level check and top up the washer fluid anyway.

The other is located in the air intake housing above the blower, below the pollen filter.
I mentioned this elsewhere recently, but S2central says it's not the same sensor even though mine has the same part number and is visually identical
No idea [shrug]
