This is turning out to quite an interesting thread. Thanks to all who have provided pics and technical details. I had a peep at the wiring behind the dash and I don't have the yellow plug so I'll need to patch one in.

Looking at the option list posted above, I notice that the reading lights integrated into the overhead grab handles isn't listed as standard or optional. I've got a feeling there may be a few more omissions too.

Am I reading it right? Does that option list also say that metallic black wasn't an option on the S2?

That's how I read it too. That certainly wasn't the case as I'm sure you'll testify. It can't have been available for a particular production year? Very strange I thought it was always available but as an extra cost option along with any pearl finishes.

Correction: Brilliant black was a standard colour (no cost option), pearl was offered as a cost option. Thats certainly true for later spec cars at least.

Now we are on the subject of paint finishes. Who has seen or owns a car finsihed in cyclamen pearl metallic? What colour is it? I've never head of it before until skimming the 1993 brochure on Mike's site.

Last time I had the centre console off I'm sure I saw the little brown wire with the tiny brown rectangular plug lying near the shifter - it was a long time ago and I didn't know what I was looking at then. That's why I have an inkling that it's just going to be a plug 'n' play fit (although it's Corey's problem to retro-fit it anyway).
That wire config sounds about right, i've just picked up a complete loom with sensor and the pod for the dials and that sounds about right for everything. Just gotta get my dials out and check for the yellow plug.
