    Upgrading the Lights

I got bored on saturday so decided that in preparation for my brand new ellipsoids to turn up on thursday I thought i'd go and fit the HID kit I ordered from china to the fogs. Got quite good results to considering the fogs are now brighter than my headlights, roll on thursday and the ellipsoids. I followed Jas's posts/comments about where to fit the ballast packs. Also had the bonus of putting the later fogs onto the car and sorting the bumper out as it was not fitting right.

Sorry for the quality of the pictures but hope you get to see the results.

I have to atm as until the new ellipsoids turn up on thursday the standard headlights are rubbish as most s2 owners know. So I will be fitting the ellipsoids and HID's on thursday night possibly friday depending my mood.

edit: also liked the last shot which shows inside my grille

speaking from experience, your new HID will blow you away!!..(Ask Jas11n)..when I had mine fitted they were just so much better.....and with the fogs it will be as different as night and day.....

Is there any point in fitting the HID kit to standard headlights or does it need to be elipsoids? I'm not bothered about the shape as long as they're bright.

Is it possible to say what product you are using?

And if they sell to the States? I have the RS2 mod on my car and wonder if they would work on the foglites? Can you post pix if possible on how you did the mod?

Yes, I believe it is worthwhile.... Dan_b I think fitted HID to standard 3B lights, and the result was excellent.... you do get a less accurate beam pattern than with elipsoids, but way way better than the candles you are used to.....

Absolutely right its worth it - I had the old H4 reflector lenses which basically at night is like trying to illuminate Wembely Stadium with a tired glowworm. Sticking the HID kit (from VAGParts) in allowed me to actually drive at night and see where I was going - a miraculous transformation!

As mentioned, the reflector lenses do disperse the light in a more scattered manner than with the later ellipsoid lenses, so you have to be a bit more cautious with the beam aim to prevent annoying every oncoming driver in the whole of the UK - I made sure to aim them several degrees below the normal.

Ask Robatron if he can see at night now for an up-to-date testimonal!

As to the HIDs in the Foglights, I looked at this a few years back but ultimately decided against it - surely this will annoy everybody as the scatter and low-aim of fogs will make them dazzle enormously?

I must admit the current trend for people to drive around with just sidelights (or not even sidelights?), but augmented with fogs, is bloody annoying!

cheers lads. that's me sold. my 16v is just as bad. bad enough that the light is crap but add a bit of dirt on a reasonable drive and you're down to using the satnav to avoid falling off the road.

                            http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWN:IT&ih=010

This is the link to the guy I used, quick and easy £46.99 delivered buy it now. Until my new ellipsoids turn up on thurs I have been using the fogs with the normal lights for the small fact the normal lights are rubbish and I could not see nothing without them. I found the beam to be ok on the fogs and not too bad, have not had no-one flash/beep me yet.
