    I did this last week.

    There's a write-up in the s2central.net tech section.

2 bolts hold in the rear section of the centre console: 1 under the rear ash tray, 1 just in front of the handbrake button (behind the plastic panel).
The rear part of the centre console can then be moved.

A screw in front of the handbrake holds in the grae stick gaiter (sp?).
Undo that screw, and unscrew the gear knob.

Remove the 3 heater knobs by using Pliers and a cloth (to prevent damage)
remove the lower 2 screws in there, and after removing that trim remove the next 2 lower screws. The front section of the centre console should then slide out.

The bulbs can then be replaced.

        yes.

        1: remove instrument cluster

2: remove temp display unit (2 screws at the bottom)
        3: re-solder in a new bulb : Maplin BT43W

            Ah Yes... sorry.
            I misread your post...

I'm not sure if the clock is illuminated by one of the standard orange bulbs, or something hidden deeper inside the cluster...

One of the standard twistlock type bulbs on the rear of the clocks for the digi clock.
              1.2 watt IIRC.

I'm guesing from the placement that it's one of the orange guys.
                  They're 1.1w.
