    Alternator woes.

I'm experiencing charging problems at the moment. I replaced the V-belt, the regulator is fine as I replaced it about 1 year ago. I suspect the slip rings to be at fault as they have deep grooves in them so I want to strip the alternator down to replace them.

That were my problem lies, the 4 long philips headed bolts face towards the front of the car so they have had years of exposure to the elements and a little corroded. I soaked them with plus gas and tried to crack them free. The first screw head started to crumble a little so this doesn't fill me with confidence.

I used a philips drive socket and managed to sheer the tip of it off (Halfords Pro tools).
Any BTDTs? I want to be able to reuse the bolts again if possible (I don't think these can be ordered separately) and I'm reluctant to use a stud extractor as these will destroy the bolts and have a tendancy to snap when using the smaller ones.
EDIT: The cheese head bolts are available separately so that is a big help (phew).

I hope someone can help as I need the car back on the road as soon as possible.
    Thanks.

I forgot I had one of those. I'll give it a go. Thanks Stu.

soak the ends in penetrating oil too as its only threaded at the base....apparently. A local alternator specialist should be able to supply replacements though
