Main beam flash not working!

In the last few days I've noticed that my lights don't flash when you pull back the lighting stalk. The main beam works fine when you push the stalk so do you think it's most likely a fault inside the steering column switch and if so is it repairable or will I need a new unit?

tris ive got a couple spare if they are the same as mine.....

usually the stalk has burnt out because these old Audi's wiring can't handle higher powered bulbs that people put in them
