Audi garage cant connect to diagnostics

    Hi all,

I've had the local audi dealers try and pull the fault codes so I can try and diagnose my brake / ABS problems - http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28986

Unfortunately they are unable to connect to the computer, I have checked the fuse (21) and that was fine, does anyone know of any tests I can do with a multimeter to see where the problem with the computer may be?

I want to try and fix or diagnose this myself - but not having Vag-Com I wont be able to see if I have - any ideas ??

    cheers

Just download vag.com yourself online and buy the cable's from ebay £12 should cover you to pull the codes from ECU...Do the garage have the right cables?..sounds mad but dealers and S2's dont work sometimes

I agree, most main dealers don't know how to use their diagnostic equipment, even on newer vehicles not just the S2.

Is the car a 3B or an ABY?

Theres no OBD on the ABS fitted to 3B - ie the old version with ABS cancel switch. If the dealer could have been ****d to look up their books then they would know that and the correct course of action with another specialised piece of test equipment... www.s2central.net for more details in tech section

I know that on A4's, A6's and Passats that if the ECU computer is shagged then you can't interogate it at all with diagnostic equipment, it just comes up with "No connection can be made".

I'd try someones ABS controller and swap them over temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

The cars a 1994 ABY, the guy in the dealers connected two cables into the fusebox,
the fault reader said something like (spanish isnt my forte) - "unable to connect"

Does anyone know if its possible for just the diagnostics on the ECU to fail?

I've had a look on ebay, would these VAG-COM cables on Ebay be the right ones?
