Problem purchasing new dash for 1999 A6

Hi All, just want to vent my frustration oon this subject.

We own a 1999 Audi A6 avant 1.9TDI as famaly carrier.
In the dash there is the driver information system display.
This display is not functioning correctly, the information is there but the pixels are fading with time and temp. so after a few minutes the info can't be read anymore.

I found a company in Germany who said they new the problem and could fix it --> we tried, no luck this was an other problem.
When we had the dash out I immediatly noted the partnumber so it would be easier to find a replacement.

    The partnumber is 4b0 919 880 G

As I got a dash offered with the same article code but without letters a the end, this dash came out of a 1999 A6 2.5TDI.
I wanted to know what the difference is with and without the "G" and what risk I take buying it.

In Etka I found this part, without the "G" and with an "X" (the X means that is a "exchange part") This article is for TDI to a certain chassis code, no mentioing of 1.9 or 2.5. Now the frustration starts.....

The chassi code says it's for a TDI untill 1998, and our the car is newer..
No one can tell me what the "G" means.

It seems I can only order a NEW dash using the chassis code but it will then cost me 600 euro!!!! Just to get a display fixed>>!!

If anybody could clarify this issue I would be very greatfull.
I need a replacement dash for the mentioned article number!
Is the same number but without letters usable?
    What is a nalternative??

    Many thanks

I have the same issue with the pixels mate. I asked about recently and although I don't know what the G means I was hoping to get a display from any other A6 of a similar year. I'm told the mileage and possibly the immobilser could be linked into the clocks unit so to use another unit would require VAG TACHO to recode it.
As yet I've been a bit busy and haven't gotten round to it though. Also I'm a bit scared to buggr up my existing unit and have a car that doesn't go anywhere

      That were my thoughts.
Turns out "they" don't supply just a new display. It's not swappable.
IF you can get anything it will be a complete combi instrument unit. That is recodable WHEN it is the correct one.

Finding oout what is usable and what not is the problem.
I've been to several dealers, Dutch & German.
I've been to several "Audi specialists", also in Holland & Germany.

none of them can give proper info and/or a guarantee if (in my case) a part with the same partnmber, just lacking a letter, is usable.

This frustrates me.... ETKA shows,"just one TDI-dash" turns out there are several and no body can tell me if it's usable....

      Any help is very welcome

it might be worth posting the question on audifans.net mate? it's ridiculous that the dealer can't give you the correct info
