    Windscreen wash jets not working

    What could cause this?
Pump, faulty switch in the stalk, faulty connection on the back of the stalk...

    Anything else?

          - Apparently there isn't a fuse.
          - I'll check that the hoses are plufgged in.
          - only for the headlight washers, not the windscreen washers.

Could be grit in the pipes that has blocked up the jets.

get someone to listen by the ns wing when you try to spray mate. if the pump is working they'll hear it. If not the pump could have died or connectors could have corroded. If you hear the pump working at least you know it's a blocked or disconnected pipe. And if it's a disconnected pipe you may see a little water leaking out the bottom somewhere.
Or here's a silly one - did you definitely fill both tanks when you last topped up?

Only one tank on the RS2 (I hope...). And I don't have the low water level warning.

Unfortunately i'm not sure i've used the washers since I had the stalks out... I may have just messed up the switch or connections.

ah. one tank eh? well that should make things a bit clearer. I wouldn't have thought it was the stalks if the windscreen washers are working. surely the headlamp washers should work at the same time? my vote is the pump has died. have a friend stick their ear to your wing to check. they'll look daft but it should help.

The windscreen washers aren't working... That's the problem.
I'll have someone get on their hands and knees and listen.

another case of me using the forum in a tiny browser window andnot reading things properly. doh! at least listening at the tank will tell you if either pump is working. I might be able to help you out with a spare pump if you need it. just shout if you want to give one a bash mate.
maybe best to get the main windscreen pump out and stick a multimeter across the connectors, get someone to pull the stalk back and see if you get a voltage reading. If not i'd be inclined to take the stalks off again and check the plugs are all on ok and there's no obvious damage anywhere round the plugs and wiring.

I'll be in there anyway this weekend to replace the headlight washer pump.
Thanks for your offer, I'll bear it in mind.

Tried again... can't hear any pump. But when I pull the stalk the wipers go.
Can anyone confirm if the switch that triggers the wipers to go is physically the same one that turns the pump on? Paul?

S2_Central did a write up some time ago about the headlamp washer relay potentially causing problems as it is unfused if something goes wrong. I took mine out as, apart from the problem, I got fed up with all the smears on my (rarely) washed bonnet....Maybe the previous owner removed the relay ( it is in the fusebox beneath the steering wheel ) marked "275" pn 443 955 535.

                              Windscreen washers, not Headlamp washers.
