I lost my speesometer a while ago, all the lights are working, but the speedo, trip meter, and autockeck computer is not working. I got a Speedometersensor error in vag-com, which they also got at the dealers, but it was no help replacing it. They have already troubleshooted for a few hours, but cant seem to locate the problem. Nor the navigation or the diff get the signal they need to work. It has also given me a limiter of 4000revs in 4,5 and 6th gear.
Check the instrument cluster is getting a signal from the sensor. Put a multimeter between pins 20 and 21 on the 26 pin blue connector at the back of the cluster, jack the front left wheel off of the ground and spin it.
I had this problem and had the transmission speed sensor fault code, so I replaced the sensor, but it didn't fix it. Luckily I double checked and found the connector to the the sensor had broken, so the terminals were being pushed out oif the back of the plug and not connecting to the sensor. I got a new plug and that fixed it.
the garage told me today that it is the wheel inside the gearbox...under the sensor that us bust, and that they need to remove the gearbox to change it....damn....
so, they changed the plastic wheel in the gearbox. no luck. They say they have no proper wiring diagram for the RS2 and that they want to change the whole instrument itself..
i can give you a wiring diagram in german, if that helps you.
let me know if i should do so.
PS: i don´t think that you have to remove the whole gearbox in order to change the "wheel" for the speedo. IIRC the "wheel" is only bolt on the gearbox from the OUTSIDE...
PPS: If the navigation doesn´t work either you have a problem with the blue/white cable. this is the "speed"-signal for the car. You are having this signal in a lot of things. For example in the air conditioning, radio, ABS, speedo, bordcomputer etc etc.

The boardcomputer is not working either as you say. And there is no GALA signal. A/C was just refilled and worked for 1 week before it stopped cooling. I havent tested ABS, but I will tomorrow. It it going back to the dealer tomorrow to change a part of the speedo it self to see if it will help. They are not sure how it is all connected.
If you have some diagrams, please send them to eskaala(at)online.no
Hi
Had a similar fault with my RS2, Found that by tapping perspex cover
would work now and again, Removed instruments and traced wire, Found
dry solder joint where plug joins the back of the speedo, Resoldered and
never had another problem, Disconnect battery or you will need to reset
the airbag warning light if you remove the steering wheel although you can
remove cluster with wheel in place if you have small hands
they got it working today!! i was the internals of the speedo it self. Milagerecorder and everything. I now have an RS2 with 26km's on the clock.... will have them make a stamped and signed document tomorrow which tells the km when the speedo was changed. Thank god it works again. Navi, diff lock etc are also in full working condition now
