does anyone know how to recode the transponder on a remote I bought to match the existing one for my A6?

a quick fix what year is it?? You have to keys and to remotes??
If so you put one key in ignition, one in the door, window open. Lock the door from the outside with the key, switch on the ignition, push the locking button on the key in the door, you will see the turn signal flash, this means (1flash position 1, 2flashes position 2 and soforth, you can have up to 4remotes) when you have taken postition 1 you wait for 5sec, then hold the opening button in and and the car should open. Thats one remote coded in... ok
then repeat for as many remotes as you have

that's fantastic mate thanks. It's a 2000 A6 by the way. I have a working remote and key just now that I got with the car and I bought a spare remote and blank key. I'll get the key cut on saturday so when that's done I can follow your instructions. So the key I already have with working remote - should it be the one in the ignition when I follow your process? And the new key should be in the door?

start out like that, the key you have does the remote work?? in that case try and pu the new one in at pos.2or 3 or 4. remember you have to code the new key in also, that has to be done online at an audi shopjapanischer industriabfall nein danke!!

I don't really get what you mean by putting the new one in at 2, 3 or 4. does the existing one not go in the ignition and the new one go in the door?
As for the transponder thing I didn't think I could do that online. How does that work?

ok, i'm an idiot. i can get the dealer to do the transponder or there's a local place that says they can do the key cutting and transponder. I'll do the remote myself. thanks again for your help mate--------------------------------------------------------------------
