    Code 53

The display on my car is showing a constant number 53 on the main display, no 'OK' etc. Can anyone helpl? Is this a fault code? I have a Quattro Coupe converted to an ABY Engine. Thanks all

hey mate, its something to do with the wiring between the dials and the stalk which does the trip computer etc, I had this on my 20v quattro sport as I fitted s2 dials without the stalk/wiring so it never worked. You could check its been plugged in right as it might be as simple as that, if at worst its the stalk I know a couple of people with some spares.

    How you enjoying the car?

is it just the lights or you don't get the rev and temp gauge?

just not lighting up, all gauges working fine, the car came with a suspicious looking tiny little bulb in the glive box, think this may have come out from behind the dials but maybe wrong. and to answer your previous question....yes, having great fun, think the turbo needs a bit of attension but all good otherwise.

To take out the dials to check is easy, couple of screws to remove the cover behind the steering wheel then 2x screws at base of dials the pull the dials forward and move to an angle to get at the plugs behind and then it just comes out sideways, could just be blown bulbs and gives you a chance to check the wiring whilst your there.

What do you think is up with your turbo, what symptoms do you have?

ok, thanks, will play with dials tomorrow....Turbo, well only boost to about .7-.8 bar, and thought they were meant to reach about 1.5?!? maybe im wrong, also, also when reving very high i feel and hear a 'thud', at first i thought it could of been a bit of backfire but now startng to think its the turbo cutting out. Im going to ask Bo to have a look when he next around, think he knows a thing or two about turbos. Off to bed, willl reply to any posts tomorrow. thanks

I had 53 show up on the Autocheck screen after I rebuilt my clocks. I got rid of it by holding down the reset button on the wiper stalk.

Sounds to me like a fault on the OBC (on-board computer) but could just be that the RESET button on the wiper stalk is stuck - or the wiring between it and the OBC is faulty.

Did you try swap them for new bulbs or put some power across them to check they actually work?

If its not that could just be a wire on the back thats playing up, all the other lights/switches etc light up fine?

hey nic, glad to hear u finally got some s2 power on the go.

Its more then likely blown bulbs that are coursing it not to light up.
Re the 53 code, I have a spare s2 stalk we can try.
.7 bar is not enough for an aby, maybe it has a boost leak. We could look at this too.

Arum and me are still on our way back from the continent. Will come round this week some time though. When are you free. See ya.

                              getting closer

ok, finally got all the bulbs sorted, nice and bright . /but i have a question if i may; The far right stalk below the speedo, one of four, what is it for? Mine hardly comes past the clear plastic and turns freely left and right, does not push in either, like a button. Is it broke??!

thanks for your help thus far!
