    HID Wattage question

So I've got some ellipsoids and I'm obviously going to get some HID's to go with them, my understanding that one of the causes of the autocheck warning is that most HID's are 35W as opposed to 55W that the standard bulb is. However when I inquired about 55W HID's I was told that they are too bright for normal road use, however I'm thinking that may only be the case if you don't have ellipsoids to beam scatter.

    Thoughts anyone ?

i have 55w and they are that too bright.I doubt that anyone will ever notice the difference. All the new cars without glass glaring preventive configuration(but those clear plastic ones) are still much more brighter.
I use 55w cause i thought that the 35w i had were not that good.SO i went higher and im pleased now.

I have 35W ones in mine and no autocheck problems with the kit I got. I did want 55W ones but they were expensive, the kit I got was £35 from Hong Kong and arrived with no duty in 2 days!

As far as I understood it, the autocheck measures the current draw across the left and right circuits and if the difference is too great, the warning is triggered.

It seems that HID kits can cause this due to the variable (between sides) current draw of the cheaper kits. I do not believe it is related to the lower wattage of the kits.

I have a 35W HID kit which works very well, but over time started to trigger the autocheck warning, so I did the k-pin mod and all is dandy now

        Cheers n

I've got one of each 55w on the ellipsoids 35 watt on the fogs iirc.

Tbh imo best thing you can do is make sure you get a decent earth for it that will probably sort it out as i've not done the mod on the relay as i've not needed to, if it starts playing up i'll just clean up the earth point so I still get the bulb check.
