    B3 > B4 headlight conversion issues

    Done my B3 > B4 face swap over the weekend. Everything on and fitted fine, but having issues with headlights.

    The car is going to the bodyshop later to be painted - the only thing i couldn't do was plug in teh headlights for 2 reasons:

    1) Plugs are different
    Both plugs are 4 pin, but the connectors are different -

    2) Separate sidelights
    The b3 headlights have integral sidelight, where the B4 sidelights are separate.

    There is no separate feed for the sidelights on my B3 loom so i need to think about how to get this sorted over the next few days while the car is in the shop.
    I guessed the main plug for the headlights was just a simple case of changing the connector on the loom. But then i remembered the separate sidelights on the B4 and this confused me!

    Has anyone done this before and got any advice?

    Cheers

    Hi mate,
    Don't understand when you say the sidelight are separate? As in you mean they have a separate feed to them? That'll be a strange one as they are 100% integrated in the ellipsoids, the H4/H1 lights fitted to say a 3B or even the headlights from a boggo standard 80 with the separate indictaors.

    The sidelight wiring is supplied down into the main plug, and wired internally. The sidelight bulb holder is just pushed and twisted into the headlamp, no separate wiring.

    Pictures would be help here.

      Hiya mate.

      hmmmm... ok.. maybe i'm going mad
      I need to look at it again, as it had been along day yesterday when i finished - if theres no separate wiring for it thats probably what i missed - theres definately no bulb holders in there so thats probably what leading me astray

      Could you help with part number for the the B4 type 4-pin headlamp connector (loom side) and the sidelight bulb holders?
      I'll need 2 each of them anyway i think, and some pins!

      Cheers (again!) Jase

        I can go and get a H4/H1 headlamp from a 3B if you want and take a picture?
        In the famous words of Scott of the Antarctic, "I may be some time" cos they are buried in the shed. Let me know.

        Looking up connectors now.

          Connector = 4A0 971 966,
          It's rubber boot (if needed) = 4A0 941 189
          And pins for the connector (if needed) = 000 979 117 (part number is for "one" pin)

          "rough" price from a dealer inc VAT;

          Connector = £5.60 each
          Boot = £2.25 each
          Pins = £1.10 each

            Yup, 7M3 953 124A is the part number for the sidelight bulb holder.
            £4.80 each from a dealers.

            Didn't need to go get them, already had some pictures I posted on audifans when someone asked a similar question.

              Wow! Thanks mate - yeah that explains it - i've not got any sidelight bulb holders, so i thought the sidelights worked off a sub-loom

              I'll just need to swap the connectors over and get new bulb holders then, much easier! Thanks Jase

                Yeah I mentioned that to you alex when I sold you the lights

                When I did my 20v quattro sport -> ellipsoid headlights I just got 2x connectors from a b4 car and cut soldered and heat shrunk them in.
