    Help! HID fitting power source.

I've got my HID sets through. H1 for full beam and H4 for dip.

The H4 set has a red ding terminal, which is meant to be connected straight to the battery. Unfortunately, my battery is in the boot (Avant). Has anyone managed to draw from another source under the bonnet? Or have you run a cable the length of the car to the battery? If so, how?

My HIDs ran off the standard 12v supplied to the back of the headlamps. They were plug and play apart from the Earthing cables....

Not sure if that is any help.

I fitted a set to my dads car the other day, had to use the standard plug connector for the bulb as the plus then earthed out to the bodywork.

      Same with the s2.

Could you use the + on the back of the plugs?

I let my Dad read the replies, I'm useless when it comes to electrics. We wired it up to the + on the sidelight bulb and got everything working, except one of the H4's (dip headlight) it'll strobe about 5 times and then not work. Everything else works fine though, just got to get the ballasts on one side mounted and this irritating problem with the one dip headlight.

My Dad thinks that maybe the wiring for the sidelight isn't man enough to cope.

Yup the sidelight has not got enough power to kick start the ballast, you need to find the main souce.

Why don't you just come off the +ve wire that normally connects to the original bulb, the connect the ballast to earth? When you switch the lights on, the Ballasts fire and the HID's come on. Make sure you have a good earth point though and remove all the paint before connecting the earth terminal etc...

P.S. If you had non elipsoids orginally check that Main beam does NOT switch off Dipped beam (now your HID lights) otherwise you will kill your ballasts in time switching them on and off. (Ask me how I know that? )

            Cheers,

            Steve.

              Erm....how do you know that?!

I will ask him about coming off the +ve wire when he comes in.

When I go on to full beam, dip headlights stay on, so that sounds ok.

From what I've seen of which ones work, I'm hugely impressed. They were lighting up the wall across my drive in the daytime. Also, I'm glad I was pointed in the direction of 6000k rather than the 8000k, they're blue enough as it is, they're spot on.
