    She has PMT again!

    Hi All,

After a month of trouble free motoring she has PMT again and is not firing up.

I am pretty sure it's an electrical fault as all relays have been checked as have the fuses and the all imp HAL sender and RPM sensor.

As Paul mentioned when I posted this problem up shortly before ADI it may well be the immobolizer, I have just contacted Avital (my alarm manufacturers) and they have said that if it was the fault of the Avital module I couldn't crank the car at all which rules at that as the car cranks but doesn't fire.

So does my 93 ABY coupe have a factory fitted immo that is causing me this pain??
And has anyone else suffered the same (erratic) symptoms as I, namely - runs fine and then refuses to fire after cranking when she feels like it

I'm at my wits end and am running out of idea's - I don't want to hate her but she is not in my good books right now

If anyone has any suggestions please post them up for me to try?

    please!!

    Many thanks folks,

    Jigs

The plug on my crank sensor is dodgy or the wiring next to it. Wiggle the plugs and all is well again

          Hi Andy,

Checked and wiggled to within an inch of it's and my lfe!

Still refuses to start - I ahve also tried the old kick and hope tactic to no avail

Keep suggestions coming - I've set aside my whole Saturday to try and sort this.

            .

Find a techy, nerdy type in your area who can bring along a digi scope and check some sensor outputs.

S2central has all the info you need.

            Good hunting.

Here's hoping I can sort this sooner than later.

                Jigs,

this is stil symptomatic of hall sender failure, (I know we talked at ADI) but I'd pull the hall sender connector or one of the wires to the plug and verify that vagcom or led can log this failure, this way at least you can rule in/out the the whole Hallsender as a failing option, but first you need to verify the sanity of the ecu and it's capability to indicte such a failure as no connection to G40.

If you've got acces to vag-com post the output and version of the software

                  Hi Eric,

Pulled the HAL Sender and and tried firing just to see if the ecu will register the fault which it did straight away.

Not sure it is the HAL but am contemplating changing it to see if it clears the fault - fingers crossed.

It's a temperamental one too as she fires when she wants to - hasn't fired up for the last 3 days so looks like it's here to stay this time round

Annoying as I only ever get to drive over the weekend and it's one of my few treats during this credit crunched year!!

Given that it has packed up completely this time, it may be worth checking the pin on the back of the flywheel is still in place.

I agree with pixsaudisex2 that the fuel pump is worth to check. My S2 once didn't start on several tries, the morning after it did at once fortunately - for the last time until the fuel pump change.

Fuel pump is working and flywheel is fine and dandy as is the pin.

I've broken all my metatarsals kicking the damn thing in frustration!

My mate and I are going to resume our CSI duties on her shortly!

Here's hoping we fix it or I'm going to have to start head butting it like a Bushwacker!
