Switch lights

- no backlight on my rear fog light switch

- Rear heated screen 'on indicator' light flickers (could be an iffy bulb connection or an iffy circuit)

- oh yeah and my lighter doesn't latch down anymore - now that's odd!

any suggestions chaps??

First two are probably down to old age. Time for new switches or a bit of surgery.

As for the cigarette lighter, do you use a phone charger in it? It's very easy for the bottom tabs (which latch the lighter in when you press it) to bend outwards. Common problem on new cars with the slimmer sockets. Mine was the same.

You can either replace it. The O.E one isn't cheap but most VAG sockets will fit (see my how-to on touareg torches for part nos and prices)

or

You can bend the tabs back out. Easy(ish) job. Either use something non metallic to bend the tab slighty inwards or pull the fuse and use a screwdriver. Second way is probably easiest. You can see the tabs at the bottom. Just bend them in towards the middle.

I just picked up 6 switches from a scrappy yesterday. £5 for the lot. You can find then in 80s, 90s and 100s. They just pull out.
