    TOAD alarm wouldn't shut up?!

The S2 sat on the drive, hasn't been run since Xmas day, all of a sudden the alarm starts going off. Grabbed the keys, went outside, pressed the green button on fob - nothing!?! WTF?? Actual central locking opened & locked no worries but actual siren just wouldn't shut up. (in fact it would last a minute then go quiet for say 20 seconds then start waiiiling again). Tryed the button several times but still wouldnt shut up.

I opened the bonnet and stuffed a towel over the siren to quieten it down whilst i had a play. Car still locking and opening ok, i even touched the little immobilzer fob on the contact, light went green (thats the 30 odd second signal that its not immobilized and ready to fire up) and it even started ok BUT with the siren still waiiilling. In the end i just disconnected the battery.

When i connected it up again, all seemed fine and back to normal. Car started OK and no alarm going off. Turned her off and dissconnected the battery tho as was going out.

Only ever time alarm has gone off before, its been gale force winds, i'd just press the button on the fob tho and it would shut-up?

Anyone any ideas? Or do you think its just one of those weird unexplainable things that happen once in a blue moon??

    Spooky....

I had the same thing a couple of days ago with my Scorpion (Audi UK dealer fitted) alarm....weird eh?

It happened in the car park at a local shopping centre and we were already seriously late before we had even ‘just popped’ into the shops, so the last thing I needed was to spend 45 minutes in Arctic conditions trying to shut my alarm up.

Unlike yours, mine failed to respond at all to the remote and therefore the ignition was dead. I tried all the shaking the remote, holding it to my chin, pointing it directly at the alarm controlled through the dash tricks but to no avail. My first thought was to grab the spare battery that I ALWAYS carry in the car, but after a painful minute of frantic searching, I remembered that I used it in my spare fob recently

Therefore my next plan was to turn the system off with the special key which is luckily on my key ring. I stripped the engine bay with rapidly numbing fingers to reach the external siren and when I eventually gained access to the rear of it (with frost bite now well and truly setting in), I discovered that the key did not turn it off! This can only mean one thing - the key to this alarm is on the key ring that I gave to the purchaser of my last Coupe and he has the key to my alarm...DOH!

So having failed in the engine bay, I moved to the dashboard to try and gain access to the main control box. This was even more painful as although I was no longer freezing, the internal siren is even louder than the engine bay siren and so within seconds my ears were bleeding and I was not sure how long I could last before losing consciousness. However, I battled on bravely whilst my wife and son watched from the comfort of the nearby cafe (apparently their hot chocolate was particularly nice ) and eventually after 45 minutes I managed to stop the noise, but how I did it is the really kicker......

Having gained access to the main control box, I still could not silence the alarm with the remote, even though the LED was illuminating on each press. It was only then that I noticed how dim the LED seemed, so I pulled the cover, took the battery out, rubbed it on my t-shirt, popped it back in and.....silence.....the alarm was finally off.

So in summary, I spent 45 minutes in a freezing car park, being deafened by my own car because the contacts on the remote were dirty and the half dead battery could not overcome the resistance

I then had to drive to my friends house which was too close to warm the engine or the seat heaters and then try and be nice to a house full of overly happy morons who found my story strangely entertaining......I hate Christmas

    Cheers n

    Si

It's a new year and Si is on form.

My key wouldn't shut up a piercing Audi fit scorpion alarm on my S2 either Si. Then QRSport killed it dead and it was removed altogether. I don't miss the stupid autoarm thing, what a PITA petrol stations were

      @ Darren
I have a Toad on the TDi, spookily and rather strangely it went off for no good reason last Sunday morning. No amount of pressing the remote made any difference. Mine was different in that I couldn't open any of the doors with the remote. I had to open with the key and then I unplugged the alarm's brain. When plugged back in. all was fine.
I put it down to maybe condensation in the car from the particularly cold weather. It hadn't been started since the 22nd.

Thanx for the replies chaps, sounds like some weird winter madness then. I might change my fob battery just in case as well.

Thats a classic PITA S2 story as well Si, at least you've got heated seats to warm your cockles, even if it means driving the long way before they heat up!!
