    Key operated central locking problem.

Can anyone please shed any light or suggest anything to help. Basically i have a Clifford alarm/immobilizer fitted to my '94 Coupe, it has started to lock/unlock repeatedly until i open the car with the key. It only behaves like this if i use the Clifford remote. I believe the Clifford to be working correctly, i'm 99% sure the fault is in the car wiring. If i lock the car with the key it puts on the interior lights, then when i open the car with the key it turns off the interior lights. The factory horn inside the car honks when i open the car? I spoke to the body man who has just repaired and resprayed my car, he said the only lock he removed was the tailgate lock. It is like its operating in reverse. Could a wrongly connected boot switch create this sort of behavior? I have printed all the schematics from S2 Central (cheers Paul) and i'm slowly plodding through the car. It seems strange to have suddenly gone like this, just wondered if anyone has had similar "gremlins"?

I had a very similar situation with my 94 CQ a couple of years ago. AFAIK it doesn't have any additional alarm other than the factory one and doesn't have remote locking either but it suddenly started behaving in the way you describe - the central locking would just keep trying to lock and unlock the car and the immobiliser would be active i.e. you couldn't start the engine, when the car was unlocked yet it would start if you were in the car with the doors locked. The whole system felt like it was working in reverse - I think I resorted to taking a fuse out to isolate the central locking for a while. There had been no work done on the car prior to this happening - it just suddenly appeared. Unfortunately I have no idea what the cause was but eventually it sorted itself out and went back to normal again, just as quickly as it started.
If I remember correctly there had been a lot of rain at the time, I wonder if water getting into the drivers lock could have caused it ?

Yeah i had been disconnecting the battery for long periods of time, so that could be a factor. The next step is to remove the door cards and carry on "digging"! Dont you just love car electrics!! Cant really complain though as this is the first major electrical "wobble" it has thrown at me in just over 10years of ownership!

Hmmm sounds like a haunted car.... locking and unlocking itself!!

I had a prob a couple of years ago with my 16v coupe... dunno if it helps... but basically the built-in Audi alarm got out of sync with the post factory one...

I had always used the remote to open the doors and that automatically switched off the post-factory alarm, and the factory fitted (horn blasting ) one.

BUT one day I picked the car up from the garage, and didn't have the remote.. so I just opened the car with the key in the door... I then found that either the factory (horn sounding) alarm, or the post-factory alarm kept going off. Using the remote or the key to switch one off would turn the other on !!!

I realised eventually I had to re-trace my steps back and lock the car up wioth the remote...then lock it again with the key...to get back into sync. Problem solved.
        SOLD !
