How long does it take for them to fry? after a few minutes or once the engine is warmed up?

i'd say heat or wired up somewhere wrong?

only running for a few mins cause the rad isnt connected yet, then once its turned off, or stalled - couple of minutes the odd one (not the same one each time) starts smoking

Have you had a multimeter on the supply to the coil to see what it's actually getting?

not yet, ecu had suppose to have been tested on a rig after the first time this happend, need to find out what these coils should run at and get a multi meter on the loom wires and see what they are putting out

Sounds like uv got a wiring mix up so that when the engine is off or when it's stalled one or more of the POS (coil drivers) is being held on and sinking full current through a coil primary continuously which will cause them to overheat and burn out.

that sounds feasable, as i can never recall it burning one out when its running

Eiether a wiring / earthing problem or too much dwell as suggested... Need to check coil specs are compatible with dwell times provided by ECU.

id go with the dwell too. need to be set to offer the correct spark power but not generate too much heat.

                            my settings are
                            chargetime @ 14v 3.01
                            chargetime @ 6 v 1.51

                            cheers

Gazza, the dwell times are only applicable to a running engine - these meltdowns only occur during a stall situation, or if the ignition is left on, for instance, when running Megatune.

So, reducing the dwell time - even to the point the engine would start to missfire at high rpm, won't cure the issue.
My VEMS is back tomorrow, and there's a modification that needs to be applied to the harness, which I'll be doing later on in the day, will keep you guys posted.
