Problem with wiper motor? .... but only on intermittent setting

    Hi guys,
Was wondering if anybody knew what I can do to fix my wiper problem...

After sitting for a while, I recently tidied up the car for an MOT, the wipers did not work at all... then suddenly, they came to life, only on fast setting... then after driving the car a while, and turning the wipers on and off, the slow speed and single wipe came back into operation..
The single wipe took longer, but now works fine and parks as usual...

The intermittent does not work at all, the wipers stop wherevre they are if you click to intermittent during a "wipe cycle" from a different setting.

I know the relay is not the problem as a know good one has been swapped in with no change...

Is this governed by the wiper motor or by the switch maybe? I assume that now it can only be one of these 2 things.... maybe if I keep using it the nanites will repair this also...!

    Any ideas?

      RE Rear wiper problem.

Check the wiper motor first. When was the last time you removed the wiper motor and serviced it. If you haven't...do it. When you pop the case open, I'll bet you will see why your rear wiper motor is acting up. The good people at Audi used a grease in there which in time becomes as solid as pig lard and with the same consistency at cold. Clean the rubbish out and use a more up to date grease. Believe me, you & the motor will be happier for it.

Excellent idea, thanks, but this is still relevant to the front wiper - not just the rear? (BTW, I have never serviced my wiper motor....)

I had the same problem after having the car parked up for a long time, I just ignored the problem an eventually it cam back, all workingnow with no problem. I assume its the relay sticking but no problems now.
I know it dosnt help but as with everything on these cars pereverance is the key!

Problem fixed. Turned out to be a very very dirty stalk switch. Cleaned out, re-greased. All works fine now....
