    Sunroof Problem!

    Hi All!

Sunroof acting very perculiar! The other night, while driving home, it just decided to open all the way back. No matter which way I turned the pre-select dial I couldn't get it to return to it's closed position - it just seemed to move to random positions. In the end I had to use the hidden manual winder. When I eventually got it closed and tried the dial one click to the right (which normally opens the sunroof only slightly) it openend nearly all the way, and again I had great difficulty getting it to close. I've left it closed and disconnected the motor now, has anyone get any ideas?

    Thanks, Ste

Dirty contact tracks in the switch, usually its the selector at fault but the motor can also cause issues. When they play up strange things will happen like opening up all by itself, or moving to the wrong position, and ultimately refusing to close again.

To clean the selector switch remove the panel from the roof and look at the back of the switch, it will have a small plastic cover clipped on. Inside there is a couple of contact tracks, and two spingy metal contacts attached to the cover you removed, clean it all with electrical cleaner or IPA and reassemble.

As a temporary fix, set the dial to the closed position and wiggle it back and forth to clean the contacts. If you then remove the ignition key for 30secs or so you will hear the relay clicking off killing power to the windows and sunroof. Then turn the ignition back on and it should close the sunroof. Basically turning the power off/on to reset it.
