had something similar in my mates dad's van - brake light switch was shorting and somehow making the speaker crackle. have you had your head right under there to see where its coming from? A rogue realy maybe?

Been trying to see something or feel something but so far at least it doesnt want to present itself....Yeah see the radio display sometimes lights up (as it should) and sometimes goes off. I must have a sh**ty connection or component somewhere but not found it yet. Seems to make the most noise on acceleration. I'll have to try and get an audio clip of it (not easy with no interior trim ) as its hard to describe the sound.

I gave up this evening and clayed the roof, a & c pillars instead and had some polish therapy. Might sound cr*p but she's a looking glassy in the fading light

just to update this, I have been checking the wiring on the car a bit more recently and I have noticed a very fatigued main (red) cable off the alternator, heavy guage wire off the back of the fan was on its very very last legs with signs of heat damage and also the earth strap off the batter has seen better days.

I'm presuming these might have some part to play in this but remains to be seen...
