    Windscreen Wiper Stop Position

Not S2 directly (97 Astra), but the same principles should apply.

Can anyone tell me what controls the rest position for the windscreen wipers.
A friend has an Astra on which the normal wiper operation is fine. However, when using the intermittent or wash wipe, the wiper comes to rest somewhere mid-screen. I assume that there is some kind of position sensor in the wiper motor, or is there something else that controls the rest position.
If it is the motor, will this mean a replacement motor.

    Thanks in advance

Ironically my S2 used to do this. It was a faulty wiper relay. New relay cured it no probs...

Depends... some wiper motors have a rotating contact disc which has a lot to do with the position of parking. Occasionally the disc can become damaged or slip on it's shaft, and that will cause a problem too. This might apply more to old systems instead of newer controls (?)

If it's not the relay check the mechanical linkage, the Astra and the Cav (and maybe the Vectra) had a silly weak linkage which on a dry screen can cause stress to the motor and it stops mid screen.
