This is the 3B mod http://www.detomaso.nu/~thomast/alternator/

I'm trying to work our how to apply this for the ABY reg

that is not bad at all, but isnt 14.5 a bit too much ? we dont want the ECU fried at the same time!

ECU wouldn't see that remember the car is built to see 14.2v but because of wiring voltage drops we rarely see that

The ECU will see 14.5 volts some of the time due to the way it's wired in but it doesn't matter since it regulates down to 5 volts internally to run the electronics and will be protected to way above 20 volts on its input.

This mod will work with the diode(s) in the earth side (as in the link for the 3B mod) or the +12volt feed to the regulator as long as you have the diodes the right way round. Looking at my spare ABY regulator it looks like there is room to cut the link that supplies the regulator and one of the brushes and fit the diode(s) in there. If you use two diodes in series you'll raise the output voltage by approx. 1.1 volts. The diodes have to be in the feed to the regulator not the battery feed to the alternator.

i did notice again just a little while ago, playing around with settings in VEMS that on a normal running engine, without any electrics on i have about 14.14v readout from the ECU.

once everything is on, it drops to 13.20 more or less. The idle on that matter is about 100-150rpm lower but stable, and depending on what the AC is doing it might fluctuate a little. By having a proper PID control, it eliminates the possibility of having a stall once you are off the accel. On top of that you always have more load on a fully turned steering wheel with the pump adding more stress to the belts.

now im thinking of a way that VEMS can eliminate all that, and i have noticed that IAC PW is increased when load is added on,esp with the AC on. This is what makes the rpm drop and can be related to vBATT as well.

i wrote to VEMS of a simple solution that might potentially eliminate the issue, and allow the IAC to work, and not only use ignition based idle(which does not have all these problems in the first place, but also gives you a horrible 1000+idle and the car feeling is working too hard for just idling!personally i dont like it).
