    Suggest a CAT 2 immobiliser

I need new security for my insurance this year, must be a Thatcham Cat 1 or 2 device, i've got a alarm & immobiliser at the moment, but its some old Gemini system that not on the thatcham list and I've got no certificate for it.

I can't see the point in a Cat 1 system being a combined Alarm and Immobilier; noone ever sees a car alarm going off and thinks "i must call the police" they just think "shut that ****ing car up".
So probably looking at the cheaper (an quieter) option of a Cat 2 immobiliser.

My only two prerequisites are that it must be insurance approved and must have remote central locking. Anyone got any suggestions?

A CAT 2 immobiliser won't have remote central locking. All it will do is stop the car being started. The Remote Central locking thing must apply to the CAT 1 alarm surely?

I would recommend Cobra for either.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

You don't get many now days as Cat 1 is a requirement for most insurance companies

CAS is a leading UK retailer of car audio and vehicle security systems, offering stereos, speakers, dash cams, alarms, and professional installation services to enhance in-car entertainment and safety.

Just been shopping around and you guys are right, will be Cat 1 to keep my RCL
This is Thatcham rubbish is Bullshlt, I resent paying some bunch of stereo loving chav (ock suckers £100 to fit a system so they can make a rats nest scotch locked mess of wires under my dash, scratch up my interior panels and funk up my looms just to get a piece of useless paper with a worthless VSIB logo in the corner

Can anyone recommend an installer that will do a tidy job?

Is there somewhere you know in brum Jamo?

Motorguard UK in the 2nd link is who did mine, they've done a few S2's and were quite good when I dealt with them. The best place is CED's alarm, he knows his sh*t OEM garages send their cars to him to trace electrical faults as he's a qualified auto electrician, they just didn't have the alarm I wanted though and motorguard were just as good.

I had a top of the range clifford and there was quire a bit of wiring to stuff in under my dash

Toad Lazerkey seems to be the most popular Cat 2 system, costs around £80.

I've had a toad on mine since i bought it (in addition to a spyball which was on there when i bought it....been fine BUT if its one with a fob you just hold near the dash to disengage then beware, the dash plastic is really thick and when its hot it can struggle to find the reciever. Anyone who remembers the convoy to MRC last summer will remember it took me 20mins to get the car started becasue the reciever had moved

Totally agree on the alarm though, thats why i have two immo's, frustrate the sods into leaving it alone its not a car for a bank job or a quick getaway
