front windscreen/headlight washer jets not working

My front windscreen/headlight washer jets are not working - Is there a fuse or relay to check?

I need them to work to get through an MOT - I'm stumped!

There are 2 motors - 1 for the headlamp washers and one for the windscreen washers - they are both not working

Doug, Headlamp washers should only work with lights on, common prob on screenwashers is the pump but VAG cars can be a bit prone to stalk faults. Try pulling wiper stalk towards you to operate screenwashers and move it up and down the speed range and see if they work on a different speed setting. If they do it's the stalk but if you tell your MOT station how to operate them they should pass it as they only have to work even if wired to a seperate switch!

Where are the fuses for the washers?

I don't have adjustable delay stalk.

I will check with lights on next to see if it both pumps or just one - I suppose I shoud stick a meter on to see if it is the motor that has stopped working.

Fuse should be in...... Fuse box!! Didn't mean adjustable delay stalk, pull stalk towards you and whilst doing that move stalk through different speeds.... i.e. intermittant, slow and fast.
I assume motor not making any noises? Get GF or mate to hold washers on and tap pump with screwdriver handle as they can sometimes get a dead spot on the motor and a tap can set them going again.
Didn't realise you had your beast back on the road?!! How's it running? apart from no washers!!

Don't always trust what fuse box lids say about what each fuse does, sometimes it's just worth going through them all with a circuit tester and make sure both sides of fuse are live.

It is running brilliant - only got it going today - apart from a leaky rad - but got the 1st 25miles done and the first oil change.

Did the oil come out nice and clear?

Bet your glad to have it back up and running! And...... safe in the knowledge that you ahve done it all yourself so everything is to your satisfaction!
WELL DONE! I bet you feel really proud!
Any joy on washers? With it standing I would think pump would be seized so as I said before, give it a tap with a scredriver handle as someone holds the stalk in the washer position.
                        Regards and congrats again,

Been thinking on modding the front washer jets to instead spray water on the intercooler (or, as well as, but think I'll have to forget screen wash unless I want the front of the car covered in foam...)

By my reckoning, should just be a T piece, a piece of hose, and another T piece to a length of hose run around the front of the intercooler and tie clipped on. In true 'bodge' style!

Only thing is, the windscreen washers will come on at the same time. *shrug* A cheap cooling mod though?

I'm off to work so I don't have to stand here and be flamed (and if so, my squirty backwards intercooler mod will cool me down )

                          'The Bacofoil Express'...

                          No more.

Leon TDI 150 run in now.

                          Very slow.

                          Needs a chip.

I would have thought a seperate bottle rigged to a push button switch mounted next to throttle pedal with a bracket to push said button and mount 2 washer jets off a new VW passat (the ones that give a good spray instead of jets) either side of bumper orafice where intercooler is mounted! This would then give an automatic intercooler sprayer when giving full throttle!!!!!

Another option on the throttle pedal would be a push button switch and a spring loaded plunger connected to throttle pedal so you could have a fully adjustable sprayer to come on at say half or three quarter throttle!! Connect that to a kill switch on the dash then you can turn it on and off at your leisure!
