Ok guys my fob only has 1 button if you want to see a pic of the fob let me know the imobilser works if the alarm is enabled and i try to start the car alram goes off + indicators lights come on and car wont start. So would it be worth me taking off the underside of the dash to trake a look for a box with switches or do you think it is a wiring issue ?
cheers GuysComment

@ Error: Those are the pdfs I was talking about
@Fear, sounds like you have the 915 version if your remote only has 1 button, which is odd as that was normally fitted to lower VAG models (normal VW's).

Well i went a bit mad on Sunday and started to investigate the VAG immobiliser on my car:
It isn't a 915 or a 918 but I have a Scorpion fob for it and the immobiliser unit has "998 VAG 038" on it - circa 1990.

Had a bit of a search online and it looks like its a rebranded Scorpion system that pre-dates the 915 / 918s, and is one of the original VAG Quantum systems, either a QA1, QA2 or QA3 - thats all i've been able to find out.
Under the dash the dealership fitter had made a right pigs ear of fitting it:

The main underbonnet siren / unit feeds through a main loom to 3 boxes under the dash:

The 040 unit is some sort of controller for the internal microwave sensors.
The 042 and 044 units are total closure modules:
044 is wired up purely to the sunroof and closes it on arming from the tilt or slide positions.
the 042 unit is a window controller with 4 outputs, so could also operate rear windows
(not used on my car, but could be nice if i ever find some leccy rear windows :mischeif: )
Both the total closure modules have the control wires to the windows / sunroof, a live feed & earth and a white wire which is be a signal feed from the 038 unit which tells them when its armed and to close the windows / sunroof.
I've spent hours cutting and resoldering wires so they're not a tangled mess - my window closure module wasn't earthed properly so it never worked, hopefully it will now - i've spent hours cutting and soldering wires and untangling the mass of cabling, it now looks how it should and will also be dead easy to remove if / when i need an upgrade.
HTH anyone with a similar old OE system

My apologies if I've missed the point here, but what is the problem with the alarm?
It sounds as if you can turn it on and off, and it triggers when armed.
The only thing I can see you've highlighted as a problem is the fact that the alarm doesn't operate the locking.
Just to clear things up - Scorpion alarms were available as 2 systems:-
1/ Under bonnet
&
2/ Modular
In case 1, the alarm/siren unit is 1 piece and is mounted under the bonnet like yours (identifiable by the fact it has an aerial). Error404 also has an under bonnet system, with additional (optional) closer modules for Windows/Sunroof.
Modular systems have purely a siren under the bonnet and the controller is situated behind the dash somewhere as has already been stated.
If you take a look at the under bonnet shot of Error404's alarm, you will notice that he has 2 separate plugs fitted to his alarm, the top one which is missing from your installation is for the central locking.
Take a look into the top slot of your alarm where the plug should go and see if there are any pins visible. If there are, then the installer jut didn't bother to wire up the locking. If there are no pins then the controller will not be fitted with the locking relays and you would need to purchase an after market locking module which can be controlled by a trigger out wire on the alarm controller.
Hope this helps

My under bonnet alarm looks the same as that pictured the problem is the central locking doesnt work but the alarm doesnt go off either if i arm it and open the door nothing happens it only works when you try the key in the ignition alarm goes off and immobilser kicks in im too scared to pull under my dash out wires scare me lolComment

sounds like the door pins (that turn on the interior lights when youp open the door) aren't wired up then either mate
The wires that trigger the closure / locking are white IIRC. HTH

Not quite sure what you mean by turned them off. If you mean that you turned off the interior light that shouldn't affect the alarm triggering when the door is opened.
I've managed to find a diagram on t'internet which should match the wiring of your alarm (although I'm not sure for certain):-
838fitting.pdf
You should be able to test the door circuit at the alarm (short to earth) which should indicate as Error404 points out, a connection problem to the door switch circuit.

Apologies for tagging on to the end of an old thread but this one was as close to answering my question as any (and by eck have i looked!).
According to my installation cert, my B3Q has a Scorpion 155, installed in 1996. Recently, arming/disarming the alarm no longer operates the remote central locking. I've checked out the black box under the dash and it is a VAG branded box of the modular variety with seperate siren under the bonnet. It has three fuses on the wiring loom to the black box, all of which are sound. Does anyone have any diagrams for this variant, or is it the same as the ones provided in this thread. If i can find out which wire gives the central locking signal, i can figure out whether its the alarm or the locking system (which works on the key from the drivers door no problems) at fault...
One final question. If i disconnect the black box to open it up to check relay operation, will it reset and be rendered useless or will it all be ok when reconnected? I don't want to end up without an alarm or with a large bill!
Thanks guysComment
