    Sunroof electrics

One day I'll learn to leave things alone ...

With the head lining out I decided to cable tie the switch up on the roof so I still had a sunroof. However, it managed to short out on some exposed metal and now won't close.
    • All other windows work and it will open so it's not the power relay under the dash.
    • Everything else that remains in the car works so I don't think it can be a fuse, although I'm yet to check.
    • I tested the switch and it appears to operate fine.
    • There's some other gubbins by the mechanism, what is it, one looks like a relay.
    • Anything else anyone can think of?

Nightmare. When you say it will open fine, are you talking about the sunroof or windows? i.e. does the sunroof move in either direction?

Yeah, the sunroof will open (not tilt) but then won't close on the button (it will close manually and tilt manually), seems that the shorting out has fused/damaged something that closes/tilts it Not too many things that it can be, might just have to replace it...

Weird. I'd start with the relay as it seems to be the clever bit. There is also a cutout switch inside the motor which could have died, basically holding the relay off as it thinks its already closed.

Think this is the diagram you need http://www.s2central.net/S2_Schematics/E/E19.PDF

If your struggling for a motor or sunroof panel, I have a few lying around you can try if you let me know. Do you have the normal switch or dial sort as I have both.

Normal switch, if you've got a spare I can try/buy then that'd be most useful

Think I got the little bug'r. Micro switch that controls live feed is bust. Will see if Maplin have anything suitable but if any one has a replacemet motor unit then please give me a PM.

mine does this too Andy, can open it but not close it - the total closure does close it though
Tried 2 switches and another window / sunroof relay as well as the relay by the motor and no luck

be interested to know if your idea sorts it

Depends how the total closure is wired I guess. The micro switch in question interrupts the live feed to one side of the main switch. A short term work around is to bridge to the other live and apply some common sense.

Error, what you need to do is to check continuity between the yellow wire on the single pin plug and the black and blue/black wires on the 4 pin. With the ignition on and tehg SR closed, the back and blue/black should both be live. I've just bridged the black and blue/black together and all works fine although you have to stop pressing the button when the sunroof stops as the end cut-out doesn't operate in one direction.

Another test I found is, with the two single plugs disconnected and the SR closed but with the switch 4 way plug connected, put a continuity meter into the two single plugs and press the button, it should buzz both ways to indicate a completed circuit.

Quite a clever bit of kit all the wiring now I've had a look, the relay is nice too
