    Juddering rear wiper

My rear windscreen wiper judders on the return stroke and refuses to park up properly. I've so far tried 3 sets of switches, 2 relays and I've checked the motor is OK by putting power to it directly. If you push the switch away from you to activate the washer, it works fine, as soon as ou release it to park up it cuts out and judders.
Any suggestions? Have I really had 3 dodgy switches?

most likely the contacts on the gear are dirty. the grease in there will have gone solid take the plate off from over the big gear and clean off the contact surface on the driven gear i had the same thing with my front one cleaned it up haven't had any problems since and that must be a year and a half ago.

Thanks for the link, I stripped the motor yesterday and the grease was all dried up and crusty. I cleaned it all out and replaced with new lithium grease and it works fine now

Got the same problems again, I've stripped the motor again and regreased it but it didn't work this time. Is there anything else that can cause this, or do I need to llok for a replacement motor?

                      Thats weird....

Ones on MK2 Golf's NEVER fail..... Any issues are with the wires that runs through the body to tailgate or relays.... I've stripped over 10 cars and they have all been original units and all work...

Never sold any other that to people who have filled in the hole...

Quality must have gone down over the years...

Never had to replace one, always come back to life with a good clean inside. As covered before the original grease has a consistency of toffee at this stage and plays havok with the contact tracks inside the motor. Usually they stop parking properly but can get bad enough that they return really slowly while driving at speed, or even stop all together mid sweep. Cold weather certainly wont help as the old greese gums it all up.

going to try this and see if it helps. I have noticed my front wipers are slow as well, I'm sure the motor could do with a refresh.
