    Your help needed please

Hi just wondered if anyone has any tips.

I have problem starting my car, it starts but after 1 second cuts out again.
I have lost my original keys and had to break into the car. I have disconnected the plug from ignition barrel and connected new barrel.

The car is lhd 2.8 CQ 1995 with climatronic.

I have also noticed that the car cuts out as soon as climatronics comes on, if I turn the key and let the climatronic to come on the car will not start.
It will only start for a second if I try to start it quickly.

Please guy if anyone has any ideas please let me know as I am on holiday, there is lots of snow outside and would love to enjoy the Quattro power.

    Thank you

    Rob

Sounds to me that the immobiliser is cutting the engine due to new key/no key signal.

Need to talk to your local dealer or Paul N. aka S2Central.

I had this when I changed the barrel on my '96 A4, replacement key wasn't coded and main dealer wanted £105 for another key, so went to the local locksmith who recut and programmed a new key for £25 , although I did have the original key for him to program from... I think you'd probably have to go main stealer if you have no keys at all.

As I understand it yes. They plug into there diagnostics software which contacts Audi HQ and retrieves imobo code they can then program new keys from that. I doubt it will be cheap though.

As for ordering precut replacement keys you need the tag that came with the original key.

If you know your 4 digit login code you can program keys yourself with vagcom.

            cheers

That's interesting since as I understand it, at least on cars as old as ours, the code in the key is fixed and what you have to do is programme the car to accept that key code.

That would mean the car itself would have to be at the dealers or you use Vagcom???

When you get the car new the key came with a tag on which is a 4 digit number.
That number can be used in vagcom or dealer diagnostics to access the immobilizer and program it to accept new keys.

Problem is you need to know the 4 digit number, there are ways of getting it using software my local lock smith did this for me so I now have my code and can program the imob to accept new keys and delete old keys as I did when mine where stolen.

                See hear

The dealer dose not need the code as there diagnostics machine retrieves it off the data base at Audi HQ, so nobody even sees the code

                cheers

^ Spot on! The dealers used to put an email request in for the code using the vin but that was superceeded by the system described above. iirc With the 'online' system the dealer has access to the number if the tech was cheeky enough to ask how to display it when he/she was at Milton Keynes being trained up on it. However if for some reason its been blocked at HQ then no-one at the dealer end can see it.

So the cheapest way to get the car going is to change the barell, plug in the vagcom and program the new key, is this right?
