    Number 15 fuse keeps blowing.

Amongst other things (a big hole in my IC !!! ) number 15 fuse keeps blowing. Its the one for the washers and cooling fans for the engine i think. it seems to blow when i pull the wiper stalk towards me to do a single wash. any ideas would be appreciated as its very annoying.

Check the wires to the pump for the washers might be worth checking, if it blows when you try use that then that wire may be shorting somewhere.... sounds like a good place to start if it def blows everytime you use the washers

I could be wrong but the pump is most likely to be located in the washer bottle.

Ant is right the pump is part of the main bottle on mine. The stalk could be faulty by the way. Mine melted once!

Front left wheel off (oh you are from GB, maybe the right wheel then?), something like 4 bolts on that plastic cover, and there you have the little pump fixed on the bottle.

Delving into the past here arnt i, but as this forum now has probably enough info for a complete strip down and re-build i thought i would just add onto an old thread--. My car has developed a fault on:-
                a) Front headlight washers dont work (Sods law i said just last week that i quite like that feature and now its stopped) and--
                b) When i try to do a rear wash wipe i just blow the fuse, i pulled all the trim out and first tested the motor to see if its overloading the circuit, it worked fine off a 12 v fused supply from the cigarette socket, so i multi metered the cabled feeding the motor to see that they are shorted out against one another- .35ohms from wire to wire,
oops paragraphs--nearly forgot. (I know Jamo is around here somewhere )
So i traced the wire to the connector block behind the spare wheel and unplugged then tested the boot cables (Now unplugged)- No short in them, so followed the wiring back till i got to the relay under the back seat, once again tested the wires from the relay which feed the motor, no shorts, all looking good, then tested the feed wires to the relay to find they are both shorted together, before i go further, Do these 2 wires go to the stalk?? i suspect the stalk is on the blink, as i cannot see the wiring between the stalk and the relay breaking down. What do you think? any help much appreciated.
How do the stalks come out, is it a steering wheel off job, or can it be done without removing it.
Does anyone have the wiring diagram for the stalk so when i do take it off i can test it to either diagnose the fault or eliminate the component from possible causes

I replaced my cruise stalk a long time ago, and I took the wheel off to get easier access.

There's a allen bolt clamping the two stalks together. Undo it and they slip off the hub and come apart.

Not too difficult. Saying that, I'm not too sure if you have an airbag wheel.

                      Graham,

These wires come from the stalk. A common fault on the rear wash wipe circuit. Stalk is about £50 with the OBC.

I have just had the switch apart and all seems well, no visable shorts, or faults, when i operate the rear wash wipe the fuse blows but the pump still pumps water surely if the switch was faulty it would not pump the water, yet it still does. Please help this is pi$$ing me off

Different contacts on the switch operate the motor from the pump. So when you operate the switch, even if the motor doesn't work as intended the pump can still pump water.

This is how mine was when it was faulty.

I've got the schematics for this circuit but they're not on-line. They will be later tonight.

Cheers you are a star, i tested the relay out of the car tonight off an independant battery to proove it works, so it must be the stalk, the wiring looks clean and untouched/ butchered so i'll order a stalk.
Really appreciate your help, if your ever in the neighbourhood give me a call and i'll buy you a pint (Plus a meal)

Right guys, my problem still persists. I just picked up my new stalk tonight and fitted it, tested it and pop went the fuse, so the switch is OK I re-fitted the old stalk and tried another test, first put a 20 amp fuse in and it popped reluctantly, so i put a 25 amp fuse in and it glowed for a second or so then popped, and a 30 amp doesnt pop just the lights go dim. Dodgy way of testing i know, but now i know it shouldnt be a direct short to earth as this should pop any fuse, could the relay be U/S, i put voltage across it and it buzzed as if it was energising.
