    someone please help mot failure!!

Right, same damn problem ive been having since i bought the car, but now its failed the MOT because of it, and hardly suprising really....

    Right, here the problem;

    1. hazzards work as they should, but indicating left or right both flash (as hazzards)

    2. remove the fuse that does the central locking pump (no.17 i think 10A) indicators now work as they should but when i indicate left the hazzard switch in the centre consol flashes (only the left indicators on the outside flash and only left arrow on dash) when i indicate right only the indicators on the right flash, and the right arrow in the dash (no flashing of the hazzard switch)

It has a sigma alarm fitted, and obviously the indicators should flash when arming/disarming and they do when (as no.1 above) but not when i remove the fuse as per no.2 above

I have swapped the relay over that operated the indicators/hazzards and didnt make any difference

I would expect it to be the alarm causing it. We had a similar problem on MattS2's 80 TDi when we fitted remote central locking to it. The remote unit didn't separate left and right indicators internally. The net result was when you locked it they flashed as they should but when you indicated left or right all of the lights came on as the signal back fed through the unit and lit up all the indicators.

The problem is down to wiring the unit into the pump and I would guess your Sigma is wired into the central locking loom at the pump as this contains both the lock/unlock wires and the indicator wires. As a qucik fix I would disconnect the indicator feed from the alarm so you can get it through the MOT. To fix it properly you would need to connect the alarm indicator trigger to the hazard relay.

Now this is the kind of answer i need. How do i identify the indicator feed to the alarm? Also are there seperate relays for the indicators and hazzards and if so where?

Wheres the cl pump located on the coupe?

Yes rear doorcard, remove it and you will find a white tag at the top with a foam block inside the wing

Alternatively, stick a couple of diodes in the wires connected from the alarm to the indicator wires at the cl pump. Indicator feed from the alarm should also be fused. (This is odd though as Sigma alarms generally had 2 indicator feeds)

Depends if you want to get involved rewiring the alarm, but this would be a much quicker solution.

That being said, I presume the alarm wasn't installed recently in which case the problem may not be related to the alarm.

right, theres nothing from the alarm wired into the CL pump directly, the onle interference the alarm seems to have with the indicators is at the wiring at the back of the hazzard switch, there are several wires that have had a section stripped out of them and there seems to be 3 wires from the alarm (i assume, as it doesnt look factory) that look like they have been attached to the 3 wires out the back of the hazzard switch but they all look like they have been cut?

the wires from the alarm are 2 yellow and a red and the wires out of the hazzard switch that look like they were once connected are

Red and blue - looks like the red wire was connected
                  Brown - nothing joined
Blue and red x 2 - nothing joined
Black with white trace - looks like a yellow wire was connected
Black with green trace - looks like a yellow wire was connected
Black with white trace and green dots - nothing joined

also with the 2 yellow and 1 red wire there are 2 other wires kind of twisted together, a black and a black with white trace and they have spade connectors on the end, and they were joined to a yellow and a blue wire that dissapear down towards the diff lock controller by the gearstick where there are 2 rocker switched mounted, i dont know what they do or if they are even connected

not really any the wiser now...

also this thing with the diodes, i dont understand where they should be, or where they should be, my wiring knolege/skills are virtually non existant, anyone who knows about these things fancies coming to have a look, the cars in my workshop in crowhurst (Surrey), dont mind paying for your time.......

Ignore the diode info, as I suspected, your alarm has 2 indicator circuits (the yellow wires), my diagram was only for alarms with a single parking light output which allows connections to indicators.

I am stumped at the fault though. When did it stop working properly, did it coincide with any other work on the car?

What I find odd is the fact that the alarm appears to work (indicators flash) when you seem to suggest that the connections to the hazard switch have been chopped!

I think I would be tempted to remove the alarm from the equation totally by pulling the plug from it (if you know where the main box is fitted) and see if you can trace the yellow wires from the connector to see if they are terminated elsewhere in the car.

I suspect that the car may not start at that point due to an immobilisation circuit but it should tell you whether the alarm is the cause of the hazard/indicator problem.

Once you have established this you need to decide whether it is worth rewiring the alarm correctly or rip it out completely. You will need to reconnect the alarm in order to get the car started (unless the cowboy installers didn't connect the immobiliser circuit!) or reconnect the immobilised circuits where they've been chopped.

To be honest, without some electrical know how, I think you're now at a point where you're probably going to need some hands on help with this.(No disrespect mate)

Unfortunately, I'm a little too far away.

Sorry mate, cost isn't the issue, it's more the fact I'm up in Leeds.
I used to work in the car audio/security game many years ago, but work full time for the NHS now. I'm more than happy to offer advice online but I'm sure there must be someone closer who could help out.
