Vehicle Speed Sensor (G68) 03-00 - No Signal

    Hi folks

Been trying to clear this fault code for some time now. I have replaced the G68 with another G68 that I had on my old gearbox so the sensor is most likely not the problem here. The issue, except the fault code, is that the on board computer and the cruise control doesn't work. Have anyone had this fault code and found the root of the problem to be something else then the sensor itself? Was thinking if it could be something with the computer itself in the instrument cluster.

Where does the wire harness go from the sensor? To the box directly or are there any connectors on the way?

    EDIT: S2 Coupé 1994

Was the engine running when you read the codes? If not, that'll be the reason for it. I don't think it's connected to your computer/cruise issue.

If your speedo is working then the problem isn't the gearbox speed transducer.

S2central.net posted a detailed description recently of how the gearbox transducer drives a chip that drives the speedo and also produces the VSS signal used by the trip computer & cruise control.

          Hey John

Did he post it here or on s2central.net? Couldn't find it on that site... =/

Hum. Don't find much that helps me in that thread.

But just to make sure... G68, it is this baby, right?

I got the same problem on my S2 Avant couple of years ago. It was solved after I brought my whole instrument cluster to an car electronics specialist, where he told me that a small electronics cirquit has to be changed in the speed gauge itself. Now it has been working for some 2 years as it is suposed to. Btw. my car comes from Sweden aswell..

Ouch. That's worrying... I disassembled the instrument cluster yesterday and cleaned all the connectors and so. I can only hope that it will solve it.

So, the instrument cluster is back in the car now. For now the code is a goner but those intermittent errors have came back and chewed my *** before.

Interesting thing is that once the instrument cluster was back in the car I noticed that the error was logged in the climate controller too, I have never scanned anything else then the engine controller before.

Not sure if the climate controller fault codes are cleared when removing the battery or not, I hope they ain't because if they are the error is still there. Oh well, as I said... I'll be keeping an eye on those controllers.
