Tried to fit plasma gauges, now have no gauges...

Removed my old gauges, put in the ones I got from Bo (plasma faces). Hadn't even got round to hooking up the power for the plasma faces when I noticed that the LEDs for behind the heater dials weren't lighting up. Neither are the dash backlights.

Checked the connection to the relay that sits behind the aux cluster. Tried swapping it for the one that I got from Bo. Still nothing.

The rear numberplate light is also out, so I'm guessing that it's a fuse, but:
    • I have no idea whether that numberplate light ever worked in the first place
    • I have no idea what the hell I did to blow the fuse, since I hadn't even tried to hook up the plasma face power yet

I am so f*cking close to just going outside and taking a baseball bat to the thing...

Can't remember if it's fuse 12 or 14 worth checking... look at the fuse box cover. but yes, there's one that does some dash lights and the rear number plate light.

I randomly lost the clock, computer display and stereo the other day - turned out fuse 4 had blown, no idea either!

Are you sure everything is plugged in? if the dash is not plugged in then nothing will illuminate as it also adjusts how bright things are etc.

If it is all plugged in then see if the knob that adjusts the brightens is not turned all the way down. That happened to me once and it took me a while to work it out.

Also, if your fitting the cluster i sent you then check that (handbrake, abs, battery etc) lights are all connected properly. The thing is that they are LEDs and they dont seem to have such a good connection. i usually plug in all the 4 plugs on the back of the cluster. Then check that all the display lights are working, if any of them are not then just give them a very light wiggle.

Good luck Dan, PM me if you need any help.

I haven't taken the main dash off, just the aux. Everything is plugged in as far as I can tell.

Dash dimmer is turned up fully.

I'm gonna check those fuses now.

Okay, cracked open the fusebox - 14 was listed on the lid as the dashboard and rear numberplate.

The table on the lid actually lists it as a 5 amp fuse, but there was a 10 amp in there.

Anyway, immediately upon inserting a replacement, it lit up.

I guess it's got to be something in what I've touched today, which means something around the aux gauges or temp dials.

Can't figure out what, so I'll probably be needing to stock up on fuses...

Fag lighter bulb is the one thing that is working - so I'm guessing that must be on a separate circuit?

I didn't actually realise there was a glovebox light - that must be out.

Gonna grab a new light for the boost gauge (since that's out) and put that in, too.

And this is the first thing that's gone wrong?

Well done for getting it sorted

It's okay, I just hit things that weren't the car for a bit and then went back to it

I was also fairly hungry which wasn't good for my patience.

                      Typical MAN Temper then....

Bet its something simple... If you fitted LED's did you check they were the right way round...

As Bo said you also have to make sure all the plugs in the cluster are in place think there is 4 plugs...

Okay, got the aux gauges working without going through too many fuses.

Plugged the fag lighter light back in and it started to pulse instead of lighting up properly. Seems ropey and when it goes out, the clock etc. reset, unless the headlights are on.

Seems either the lights have to be on, or the fag lighter light working, for the clock etc. to stay on?

Anyway, any idea how to fix? I'm not arsed about having a faglighter light, I just want my clock to stay on when I turn off the headlights...

                          Okay, scratch that.

The clock is only coming on with the lights. If I turn the lights off, the clock turns off. It's reset to 00:00 when it comes back on. Same with the trip computer.

It also only works if the fag lighter light is in there. Regular light just throbs dimly. LED works, but then none of the above works if it's an LED in there.

Any ideas? This is ****ing weird.

Got it, fuse #4 had gone, too.

                            Gauges are now working

There's a few wires I'd like to tidy up and a couple of orange lights I'd like to turn blue, but for now, I'm gonna happily leave it working

Dont replace the battery light with an led as that may interrupt the charge circuit.
