Doesn't the RS2 dealer instruction manual posted on here by someone in .pdf format which explains how to test what you want to check?

I think they would be difficult to test since they are piezo-electric, i.e. they respond to high frequency vibrations and, likely, change resistance (= change current flow and /or voltage) that the ECU can detect. Probably need an oscilliscope to "see" anything. This is what Audi says about them:

The MFTS can be tested against Ch.51 of the automatic climate control, as explained in the link below. If you only have manual climate control, I am not sure how you could test temps other than sticking a thermometer in the uncapped overflow tank.
