I had the abs warning light come on driving home in traffic today and also the radio stopped working for a few minutes around the same time (display was on but no sound).
Later this evening went for a drive to check it out some more and the warning light was came on and off intermittently and I noticed that the the voltage gauge was up and down all over the place - it would even jump up and down when just idling with nothing being switched on and off. At times the gauge would be off the clock showing way above 16V and the instrument lights glowing really bright.
Then driving back voltage dropped to just above 12V and didnt move regardless of revs and engine started mifiring badly just as I got home and even stalled.
I also later went and checked voltage at the battery with a multimeter with engine running and lights fan, heater switched on. was ok to start - around 14V with but then voltage started fluctuating and then back at idle with lights, etc switched off went up as high as 17.5V.
I read all the theads on the voltage regulator and this seems to be the most likely culprit although these all mention low voltage rather than too high a voltage.
Anything else it could be? .
The regulator sounds like quite an easy job anyway so worth doing before trying other things I expect.

... for at least three days ... now the MAF is dying
I wonder if the high voltage could have sent it on its way.
