    Speedo drive wiring diagram

Hi, My mate and I have rebuilt an s2 but the speedo does not work and the ecu throws up a no speed input fault from the ecu. There are two wires coming from the gearbox drive sender. Does anyone know where i can find out the values i should get from this sender and the coresponding ecu pin outs or a wiring diagram of the same. Thanks, brian

The gearbox sender gives out pulses of varying mark/space ratio according to speed which are sent up to the speedo module in the dashboard. A chip in the speedo module buffers this signal and puts it out as the VSS signal which is sent to several units in the car inculding the ECU. S2central did a posting recently explaining exactly how the speedo works and the chip it uses to do it. The search function should find it for you.

Pin outs for the ECU and wiring diagrams are all available under the technical section of the site S2central.net

Schematics for s2 are on s2central.net in technical section. Speedo sensor from gearbox goes to instrument cluster where the VSS signal on a blue/White wire goes to the ECU. It's all self explanatory when you see the diagrams. By your location I can see you are just down the road so I can help hands-on if required.

If the speedo is faulty it stops the ecu getting vss input. If the speedo has an electrical fault I can probably repair it as I have a source for the chip but it's just as likely a mechanical fault on the speedo. In saying that you should test the gearbox signal gets to the cluster. I have gizmos to test that kind of thing.
      Cheers

Look at sheet B73/7 and track 81 - note use of connectors T8e and T10 to bring the speedo sensor signal into the speedo module as G21 via cluster plug T26a - and use of White/blue wire to extend as vss to ecu, difflock etc
