    Rev Counter Speedo Temp Guage

    Help,

My S2 1991 has a problem 74K miles - The Temp Gauge gets to 90 then returns, my speedo is slow to start then jumps to about 30 and then its fine, my rev counter stops at 1500 revs now for the important one the radio switches off at about 45 MPH.

Can anyone tell me where to start looking? I have tried a local Audi Specialist but they dont want to know the car is too old for them.

quote 'The Temp Gauge gets to 90 then returns'??? where to? if its going up and down then its quite likely a dodgy thermostat or mtfs

has the rev counter got a flaking sticker?it can trap the needle, very common on the earlier s2s

as above for the speedo plus the sender on the gearbox may be at fault or the speedo itself, get hold of a set of clocks off another 5 pot model and try them

Could be a poor earth on the dial wiring? Not sure on schematics for that I'm afraid.

Sounds like a bad voltage regulator to me or a bad earth.

Check the regulator on rear of instrument cluster - it is voltage reference for temp guage and other stuff.
