    nee spark! >:8

I've just finished putting my 3B head back on and everything that comes with it, put new petrol in, turned the key and nothing, oops forgot to put the immobiliser bit in, puts it in, turns it over and . . . . . . . . NOTHING!!!

    checked plugs for spark, nothing,
made sure the ht leads are pushed right in,
made sure the rotor arm is turning which it is

now I'm stuck? what now? the engine timing is right, I reconnected all of the clippy conectors to all sensors etc

one thing I'm not sure on though is the distributor timing, I was told it doesnt matter where you position the body of the distributor because its automatic? just done a search and read it could be 180 degrees out? now I'm just totally confused! but even if it was 180 degrees out it would still spark wouldnt it?

could someone explain clearly what I should do next and what it could be, thanks for any help

cheers for that, I'll do that tomorrow

so when the distibutors timed with the engine will it spark then? how does it not spark when it isnt lined up properly? is it designed so it doesnt?

dissy alignment is important as it sets the right position for the hall effect sensor which determines which phase of the cycle that cyl #1 is in. The crankshaft ref pin on #1 occurs 62 btdc on both the compression and exhaust stroke. The camshaft spins exactly half as fast as the crank so the hall effect sensor essentially driven by camshaft tells the ecu when #1 is on the compression stroke.... Then (and only then) does the ecu know the physical position of the engine so it can start delivering sparks and activating the fuel injectors.

The fuel pump will be activated when the ecu detects that rpm is faster than ~13rpm. This is a safety thing.

Check all your timing carefully. You must get them all lined up so the ecu can do it's job of advance and retard sparks.

thats a great explanation and answers my question perfectly, now I know how it works!

armed with this information, I went round to my garage, timed the distributor with the engine, replaced the battery, got in the car, turned it over aaand . . . . . . . . . . . . . . BRUM!!!!!! started up no problem!!! woo hooo!!!! get in there!! thats the first time I've heard it run

so now I know how to replace the cylinder head on an S2 and everything that comes with it, so a big thanks to everyone who's helped answer my questions! cheers get in!
